i need advice on selecting a tractor
Comments (1)Husqvarna (American Yard Products, Electrolux) makes a hand drive Hydro Garden tractor although the one I have seen is a 54" (GT2654 I think). But they also list an LTH1438 lever drive hydro which might work for you at around $1500. Dip and splash lubrication on that unit would not be ideal if you had a hilly yard. Comments (9)Just one old guy's opinion - In that price range you have lots of options, but you should probably toss the snow plow idea, as most LT's in that range do not have transmissions that can handle that heavy a job. LT's in that price range can handle small trailers, as long as you don't load it too heavy. I would look for an independent dealer; for me preferably John Deere or Husqvarna, or Snapper for a rear-engine rider (RER.) With the amount of area you'll be mowing, I'd consider only one- or two-blade machines, as they can make quick work of the mowing, and might go places where a larger mower deck can't get. Two blades require less maintenance than 3, plus you have one less grease area...and that middle blade can be hard to get to. Make sure the deck will go through any gates that you have. Make sure that all manufacturer-suggested maintenance gets done. Dual ownership and use might tempt one of the partners to get a little sloppy in seeing to proper maintenance. This is most important for reliability and longevity. Many, many problems that occur with these machines are direct results of things so simple as keeping the air filter clean, not letting fuel stand in the carburetor or fuel tank (a good fuel stabilizer can help with this), and oil & filter changes - including checking the oil level every time you go to start the engine. I do believe that many lawn tractors die premature deaths due to lax maintenance. Like I said, just one fellas take on the the subject....See MoreHelp selecting a Garden Tractor
Comments (7)Tbird, the chores you are describing do not require a true "garden tractor". As you probably know, there are 3 generally accepted categorizations of lawn machines out there: 1. Riding lawn mower. A tractor that is made for mowing only, and super light chores such as pulling a spreader, or a small utility trailer 2. Lawn tractor. Basically, a "deluxe" lawn-mower. Usually heavier duty, for larger lawns, rough terrain, etc. Will take a beating and not break-down like a "riding mower" would. 3. Garden tractor. Capable of plowing a field, pulling stumps, and hauling heavy loads. Some garden tractors have hydraulics, 3-pt hitch with PTO, and front-end-loaders etc. Like a "small" farm-tractor. The X320 is in the #2 category. The CC GT2550 is in the #3 category....See MoreNeed help choosing lawn tractor vs. Kubota BX tractor vs ZTR
Comments (2)It is a matter of exploring your needs. Mowing acres you would want to go at least with something like a large X series Deere or larger Kubota GT. Both make heavy duty zero turns as well. A better investment would be a sub compact or compact tractor , both on what you can do with it and resale market. I'm told that baggers on like the BX are really meant to be left on and can be a big deal to change. I might suggest a forum like tractorbynet and ask the folks there how they like their mowers. Where in Washington are you? Much success for your upcoming business....See More- 9 years ago
