Comments (7)I just visited the hosta forum.... I was less that impressed with the pictures of it there. I tend to like the big blue hostas, so I hope I won't be disappointed with this one. I planted it in 'the wet corner' bed to be a companion to ostrich fern, a big goatsbeard, kirengshoma, and several hydrangeas. White trilliums and white corydalis are the ground layer there. A green hosta seemed to be the best choice for that spot and this one was the biggest one I'd heard off. I hope it works out OK....See Morehow heat tolerant is empress wu?
Comments (1)I added it last year. So far so good, but it is just a baby. Jurassic Park is another baby doing pretty well. I added Elator last year and will add Victory this year. I saw a huge Elator in OK City. They have some heat there, too. Bressingham Blue handles the heat well for me, and it is getting pretty big. Millennium has never missed a beat. The leaves are as big as a large dinner plate. You CAN grow hostas in zone 8. I grow mine in containers. I think one of the advantages is that you can cool the roots down in extreme heat. Some of them do get ratty looking, but I have not found anything that grows better in the shade. I have a post on about page four called Butch's constant water system. I can't get the url to work tonight. The system does work for me, and I am in a HOT humid river valley. Good Luck with your new babies. Here is Millennium pushing 10 inches this year....See MoreEmpress Wu in comparison
Comments (19)Frank, I think you should teach your macaw to answer when someone says, "What is that huge hosta over there?" She should say, "WU WU"......Great bird. I'm a parrot lover. I was thinking that I should have removed the scape from my NOID #1 produced so early in the season, except I wanted to see the color to ID if possible. Won't your WU make another scape when other plants have scapes up? So, ........See Morebchosta 8b west coast canada
