Anybody seen/used the new Bosch Benchmark appliances?
Comments (88)After much shopping around and when I mean "much" I truly mean it. After looking at Miele, KitchenAideand Wolf I decided Bosch offered the best induction for me. I went for 36" induction, 30" wall oven with microwave/convention/speed oven. So far loving them all especially the induction, it's everything I hoped it would be and more. I find I use the cooktop more and the microwave less because I can reheat things quicker via induction than microwave! Flexi zone is great but finding it hard to find a grill pan to fit as I don't won't to spend $350 on a Bosch one. Crazy pricing. The top is so easy to clean. My only thoughts are if you are looking for something impressive in your cook space this isn't it, but I wanted function over looks. Yes I would have loved a sleek six burner chrome gas range but I didn't want all the cleaning that goes with it. I find the response time amazing on the induction from boiling rapidly one minute to a slight simmer seconds. It melts chocolate beautifully and so far I haven't burnt a thing. The timer is useful for my kids as they sometimes forget they have put their mac and cheese on to cook. Great for boiling eggs as the induction element will turn off when the time is up. No more burnt-out saucepans for me. Once I have figured out how to transfer my pictures of my cooktop and oven I will do this. I truly believe with the flexi-zone and the timer the Bosch beats Miele and Wolf hands down. Why they didn't add these features to their induction I have not idea....See MoreConvex oven: Bosch side-swing, Electrolux, Thermador, Miele?
Comments (70)That's a good question, wekick. Miele recipe book for combi steam oven does not have any recipe that use full grill with moisture, however, there are recipes that use combi mode full grill with 0% moisture. From Miele demonstrator's word when I took their cooking classes, she said that by default Miele oven retains some moisture during cooking. For the plain oven, there is a crisp function to release moisture which is done by opening up valve. This is akin to Wolf convection and convection humid mode in their CSO. For Miele combi, you have the option of setting moisture level to 0% to force the oven to release all the moisture possible. Despite there is no recipe in the book using grill with some moisture, the advertisement in Miele catalogue does claim that it is good for fish and meat. My self, I have got a pretty good result with white fish marinaded in sweet miso (saikyo miso fish) cooked in full grill combi mode with some moisture. It is cooked skin side up towards to grill. With preheated grill, and some humidity. outside is brown fairly quickly, and pretty much when the marinade starts to burn due to high sugar content, cooking is done....See MoreDishwasher dilemma, Bosch Benchmark?
Comments (14)What was the reason for pushing you to a Kitchenaid? They have free installation if you buy from Best Buy right now -- not sure if that is something that applies at other stores. Their top models are good machines. I have had both -- buying Bosch again. I think every machine I've had prior to the reno in this house have been in the Whirlpool family. When we sold our last house, we had recently installed a higher end Kitchenaid and been very happy with it. It was quiet (not as quiet as the Bosch), the racks worked really well for things we were washing then and it cleaned pretty well. I was thinking I would install the same when we moved here, but the old Whirlpool Gold (very unhappy with that one) had been tiled in between the rise for floor tile in front and the drop of the edge tile on the counter above and we had to wait until we replaced the counters -- which turned out to be a bigger remodel and the current pair of Thermadors. Kitchenaid had made significant changes to the racking and the things that worked best for us were no longer there. Hence the change -- we were down to Bosch/Thermador or Miele and I could get a pair of B/T for what I would pay for one Miele. I also felt the B/T racks would load better for us. Have not had any regrets -- on brand, model or doing the pair. Even the drying that people talked about being a problem with Bosch has been the same or better than we had with every DW - a little water might remain in the rims of plastic containers or the center of concave cup or glass bottoms. But with the concealed heating element, I've never had anything melt. I'd much rather blot a few bottoms than have to replace something that melted. Don't know if KA DWs have those now, but that' a big plus. I didn't have the Kitchenaid DW long enough to give you an assessment of longevity, but I do think it got louder as it got older - like by the end of the first year. My guess is that it might have gotten noisier. And I've had bad times with service on other Kitchenaid/Whirlpool appliances. I am verifying the details before we order, but the main reason we are planning on the Benchmark 8 is the heated water. The water filtration probably isn't needed, nor is the interior light, but that might be nice. We checked out the Thermadors too, but the racks in the Bosh look like they will work better with the things we will be washing. Oh -- certain Bosh models have a $100 or $200 rebate (doesn't apply to big box store purchases) that ends July 31st and has to be submitted by Aug 15th. ope that helps....See MoreBosch Benchmark integrated column refrigerator, is it a good deal?
Comments (3)Bosch used to sell columns here a number of years ago, before the Benchmark line, then I stopped seeing them. It appeared to me that they were redundant, and Thermador were pushed. The main reason Bosch is a lower price is that it's the Chevy, Therm is the Buick, and Gagg is the Caddy. They're all the same company. (Miele is not part of Siemans/BSH. They sold the factory to BSH and the boxes are made there, but they still use their own electronics and fittings.) They should be as they seem, and just a lower trim level (i.e., less decorative and likely cheaper to make) so they can sell more units. Check the shelves. I just looked at a picture, and it looks like they may have limited height adjustment. They are adjustable, I just don't know how much (I like to have a short, jam jar height shelf and a tall bottle height one)....See MoreMichelle misses Sophie
