new construction kitchen- thermador, subzero/wolf/other

we are building a new house and need a full suite of appliances. we are considering the thermador deal with the 36" thermador freedom induction cooktop and double wall ovens (free dishwasher) and 30" fridge/freezer columns (free vent). I've read good reviews on the cooktop, but how is thermador for wall ovens? would we be better off going the subzero/wolf route? or is there something else i am missing? TIA!!

I see no one responded and I too am wondering which way to go. I owned a 30 inch all Gas Wolf stove and loved it, but it wasn't as easy to clean and needed repairs over the years. In a similar situation (well not quite similar) but am thinking about a new Thermador, especially with the free dishwasher offer. I can't speak to the wall ovens but for the $$, I think I would go with Thermador.

The Thermador package is pretty good overall, if they had a weak point it would be their ovens. If you must do a package Miele or Wolf/SubZero (AVOIDING THE DUAL FUEL RANGES AND L/E OVENS) would be my top choices.

Not too sure how much they sell but everytime I am in the store, there are always new Wolf ranges ready to be shipped out at the door and Wolf and Sub-Zero appliances boxed up. They don't display any of it so it is always special order. I've been able to see most of the stuff I want while in the store though. I purchased my last Wolf AG range from them and they install for free. Miele called me and installation sounds like it will be very expensive if I do it through a certified installer. The local shop is putting a quote together right now then I can compare to the Miele prices. I also checked into the SZ 700TC and there is really no price difference and they have never sold one so again, no experiance for service and install. In the end, I'm sure I'll be more than happy with either brand.

hockey - of course you can view it any way you'd like but............ Is Lexus the same thing as Toyota ? Think not How about Smart and Mercedes Benz - or Chrysler when Benz owned them ? Absolutely not. Whirlpool or Kitchen Aid dishwasher ? Would you rather have a Tappan range or an Electrolux Icon or a Molteni island cook station made to order ? All the same thing in your world cause Electrolux "owns" the lot of them ! Think you're a bit naive if you think just because a division is owned by a parent it is the "same" thing" If it were exactly the same the suits would simply roll up the carpet and turn the lights out on all the employees and pay themselves a larger bonus . Oh, and for the record: the 30" over unders you're talking about are not "exactly" / except the same ! The interiors are quite different and the Bosch was available as a panel variant but was dropped in favor of providing the "add on " stainless panels with the unit with a raised price. You can just as easily remove the stainless ones and add cherry if you'd like just as on the Thermador version. SZ is in the middle of transitioning the new generation so by end of Jan. you should be able to see units in most metro cities. It'll take awhile for second tier cities to replace their displays.

Well, I have Wolf rangetop and ovens (couldn't do the low ovens of a range though I loved the look and counter space) but did Thermador columns. I didn't have room for more than 48" and had to push that a bit, but I also didn't like the location of the SZ ice maker. SZ also didn't have anything that looked like the Thermador then and I loved the look and raised ergonomics of the Thermador. I don't think you have a bad choice, although some folks have a strong dislike for Thermador burners and the cycling on and off on the super low simmer.

The thermador steam oven is very small in interior space compared to Wolf and Miele. We are going Wolf because it's more user friendly and easier to clean. The Bosch side swing oven looks very convenient but unsure if it is all that useful when stacked under a steam oven. We are taking chance on the M series Wolf I was torn between Miele and Wolf induction and decided the layout for the Wolf worked better for how we cook. I don't like small burners up front and don't like controls under the main burner. The Wolf seemed to me to have better flexibility. The Thernador freedom is awesome but probably too new to not have costly repair issues. Plus it's only 4 burners. For fridge we are doing subzero. The Thermador with compressor on bottom makes the shelves higher in which case I struggle to reach upper shelf. We need a 42" french door so Miele is out. For DW we are doing Miele Crystal with the water softener built in. It has the third rack for cutlery and some flexibility in moving the racks and tines

Thanks! It isn't necessary to do a package I suppose- but how do people deal with mixing finishes? Or we could do panels on the fridge (definitely want panel on dishwasher- kids fingerprints and drip marks on that drive me nuts). What are some popular wall ovens? when i look online its so hard to discern. I've also visited showrooms but it seems salespeople all have different opinions.

In general, finish differences between appliances of the same brand are no different than between different brands. Most appliance brands rebadge products form other manufacturers, and even if they don't the appliances are usually made in different cities/countries anyway. You really won't be able to notice whatever slight differences there are. The only thing you need to be aware of are different but similar finishes like Frigidaire's "Smudge Proof Stainless".

Gardenweb top wall ovens are Gaggenau, Miele, and Wolf for high end, Bosch and Electrolux for midrange.

i would pick each appliance based on what your needs are. if u are a big baker, then get the best ovens u can afford, if u love to wok, get the best cooktop and so on.... price out each individual appl, then see where u are price wise.
its generally thought of on GW, that no one manufacturer is superior at all the appliances needed in the kitchen. get what fits your needs, budget and layout. as far a finishes, i found it to a non-issue. i have a miele speed oven over a wolf full size oven and we don't notice the difference at all.
our DW and frig are paneled. FWIW, i love them paneled and would never do SS, just a pain to clean & I really don't like the look of SS...

Miele has a nice finish on their SS appliances that doesn't show fingerprints badly.
