If your living room furniture is in the middle of the room
Comments (6)I wish I would have saved pics from our last place but wasn't a GWer then. :( Our furniture was smack dab in the middle of the great room. Where you walked through from the front door was parallel and behind the longer sofa. Then the wall, enclosing the stairs, was to the other side. I used a thin library table with a lamp, tall vase and a few other objects. To the right of that, I had a very tall houseplant and a floor lamp. Where there was wall space (the wall angled up, echoing the stairs), I hung art....See MoreIs your kitchen open to your living room?
Comments (45)Since I'm in a 15-foot wide (at its widest) row house, my first floor is essentially one long narrow space of vestibule, living room, dining room (separated by a double wide pocket door, which is virtually never closed) then kitchen. Originally, the dining room and kitchen were separated by a wall and back stairway, but I took the stairway out and opened them in to each other, providing much better light to the dining room. I like it that way, not only for the better light, but because this area functions for me as cooking/working/living/entertaining space. I'm upstairs only to sleep and bathe. But, this is important...I will soon be on my own (son leaves for boot camp in Sept.) and didn't need or want a separate quiet place and or a formal living room that would rarely be used. And even now, my son has his own "chill" room along with his bedroom and bath on the 3rd floor, so there's not a lot of spillover noise/activity from one part of the first floor to another....See MoreNeed your suggestions in decorating my living room
Comments (12)You can get one of the sisal-type rugs at Ikea to put under your existing rug to expand the space. This also helps if you like a rug but don't have the budget for a large size. I'd look at slip covers, purchased or made, for the furniture and a few decorative pillows. For furniture placement: A trick I learned from my mom: actually move the furniture around to see how different configurations really work - take everything out except the heavy furniture so do that first, then add the small stuff, plants, etc. Some nice decorative plant pots would also help the space. It looks like your furniture is placed a bit far away from the TV. You also could consider getting one of the expanding/rotating arms for the TV to give you more viewing/furniture placement options. It takes a little time to get the curated, layered looks that you see in pictures, but it can be done and takes less than you might think. Good luck!...See MoreIs this living room appealing?
