I did some research about figs in Canada and the west coast is where you'll see fig trees loaded with crop. It's amazing what they can do on the west coast. There are bay leaf trees, 30-foot palm trees, huge laurels, huge rhododendrons, tall bamboo!, redwood, eucalyptus and of course figs... with a second crop!? I can't find much about Ontario figs but they need forms of protection. I'm reading about climate and the west coast winters are much milder than Ontario's but the coast has cooler summers than the BC interior and southern Ontario. But in pure irony bamboo and palm trees grow with ease on the BC coast. They have grapes and wineries on Vancouver Island. Rosemary is evergreen there. I like video evidence. Videos of figs on a BC west coast island or palm trees swaying in the wind in Vancouver tells a bigger story than was ever told before the Internet existed. Your precious pots are wasted on Early Girl. The fruit from that vine is the poorest in taste of any cultivar I can conjure. Yet Early Girls are easy to grow and offer high yield... so there is virtue in that EG can serve as a "canary in a coal mine" that is your garden experiment. IOW, if EG won't perform in your pots, then nothing will. I am a big believer in soil, and I break all the rules by growing my toms in almost-all compost and a little "old soil" I have never used lime... though it has been suggested as a countermeasure to our horrible native soil... which is hard-pan clay. Mostly, I dig the clay out and dispose of it. That's "back breaking" work that is just a way of life for this suburban So. Cal gardener. Hardpan is common in the coastal area where I now live. In foothill areas (such as Glendale where I lived in my former life) there was no clay. Your soil may vary! Use common sense. If you're getting flowers, you're on the right track... for soil. That's my simple rule. Then it's a matter of pollination and fruit setting, to get toms. If you've dumped and reinvigorated the soil in your pot before starting your plant in the spring, as it seems you have, your soil should need little attention during the growing part of the cycle. Never use the same pot-load of soil twice. Always dump and recycle. I don't know what the eggshells accomplish. I tried that and noticed they never decomposed. Yes, I know you're trying to infuse calcium... thereby avoiding BER (blossom end rot). I see BER more commonly in potted plants... especially in my San Marzano paste toms... This is a soil-chemistry problem... and can manifest from "too much" water.

Well you can't split them apart at this stage but you could move both of them together into a much larger pot without too much trouble. Just try to lift the entire plant out of the pot keeping the root ball intact. Set it into the new pot on top of a couple of inches of fresh potting soil on the bottom and then fill in all around the sides and water it is well. You will want the new pot to be several inches bigger all around than the old one, the bigger the better. I tend to shelter transplants for a couple of days out of the direct sun until they recover. No idea what you mean by "produced when they should" as there is no set/fixed production time with any variety. Production onset is determined by the growing conditions. But there are many possible explanations for any variety failing to continue production after the first flush of fruit. Again - all are growing conditions. So we'd need all the details on the conditions you provided - name of variety, containers or ground, size of containers if used, feeding schedule, nutrients used, age of plants, pest or disease issues, water regimen, sun exposure, weather, your location, date planted out, etc. Dave PS: I assume by "growing from seed" you mean growing transplants and then planting them out at the proper time? If instead you mean direct seeding in their grow location then that raises a whole other set of possible issues.
