Please clarify this butter question......

Help! my brain isn't working on this one & I need a quick answer.

I'm baking the original Nestle's Toll House Pie w/ GD shortly (for a school project). In the reviews people questioned the amount of butter called for in the recipe - 3/4 Cup. Those who had success said they went by using 1 and 1/2 sticks of butter - one stick being 1/2 cup & half of that being 1/4 cup.

That's where I was headed until I read in pllog's post in the "measuring machine" thread where she wrote, that one stick of butter measures one cup.

So, how do I measure out the proper amount of butter for a recipe that calls for 3/4 cup but doesn't specify if it's by weight or volume?
