Can anyone ID this plant?
Comments (4)Ooooh...I like it--except for one minor but significant detail: "A widespread genus of four to six species in the humid tropics...a fairly popular aquarium plant." Global warming is one thing, but I seriously doubt this plant already has adapted to a vernal pool in central Ohio! And I can reject with complete confidence that the plants (all in all, several dozen specimens scattered over about 1/3 acre) are escapees from an aquarium--especially since the evidence is that it has overwintered successfully here. I definitely like the idea of sterile & fertile fronds--that did occur to me as I viewed the pinnate-leaved plant, and pondered horsetail and ferns. Oh, and yes: the two-three fronds definitely are growing from the same rootstock. All the plants are like this. Thanks for the feedback, missa7. Each possibility I can eliminate brings me a minute step closer to the correct one! CK...See MoreWood powder in fallen tree cut for firewood
Comments (5)The poder is the manure of the grubs in the wood. Probably the horned beetle or some other beetle. They aren;t any danger to the house. For some reason dead hickory deteriates more quickly than other hardwoods....See MoreCan anyone ID these hydrangeas?
Comments (1)I am new to Hydrangea's but I would say the first and second are Forever and ever double pink. If they are they will end up 3 feet tall and not sure how they would do in a pot....See MoreCan anyone ID this unknown?
Comments (4)Thanks tj! I did some reading in the Plant files on Dave's Garden site, and aparantly, it's a potentially invasive weed, according to some gardeners' notes. I don't think I'll let it reseed in my garden, even though it's very pretty. A few comments from other gardeners on Dave's site: 1. I can't believe this weed is even listed here. It is terrible! 2. The flowers aren't even that showy and they aren't open all that long. Perhaps around a half hour early in the morning and after that all you get to see is scraggly foliage sprawled out over the ground. Good thing is that it is an annual so if you keep pulling it up, sooner or later you'll beat back the seed bank. 3. ...they invaded like Atilla the Hun. 4. This plant needs to be tacked up on the Post Office Bulletin Board. Another good thing I can say on the plants behalf is, the tap root is easy to pull out. 5. Kill them early and kill them often would be my suggestion. When you think of this plant, think INVASIVE, such as in "Invasion of the Body Snatchers". Again, thanks for the ID, tj. I'm going to go pull it right now! Julie...See Morei_like_pi
