Comments (68)blondelle, Thank you. I do know all the "bad" things about marble, but I still am going to pull the plug, because of it's beauty. I will go with the Vermont Danby as I think it is a bit more durable. I know Quartz is all the rage, but 20+ years ago so was Corian, so that's what I got. Although it has held up beautifully (solid white), I am done with "FAKE" materials as to me they look fake. I have yet to see a marble look alike that looks like marble to me. I'm a decorator, so perhaps I have a keener eye, but I just can't do it. I'd rather have etching etc, in a real material than have a perfect finish on a fake one. Everyone is different, that's just how I role....See MoreViatera Minuet
Comments (164)All materials will have a color which is a combination of an amount of cyan, an amount of magenta, and an amount of yellow. (or alternately it can also be expressed as amounts of red, green and blue). But also they have another measurement which is the LRV (the "light reflective value") which is the brightness. Therefore, to my way of thinking there are two aspects: - cool versus warm (this is the color) and - bright versus less-bright (this is the LRV). To me it's a mistake to mix cool and warm. The three things (cabinet, countertop, backsplash) should all be consistently one or the other.. Some whites are so pure that they are neither one or the other and can therefore go with anything. I think White Dove and Pure White fall into that category. But some other whites are warm and others are cool. Then the choice of what should be the brightest element is a separate question. In my case I wanted it to be the cabinets so I made sure that the white backsplash was subdued by not being too brilliant. You can look up different paints and see the color and the LRV here. For example White Dove is https://encycolorpedia.com/search?q=white+dove You can immediately see the same name is very different depending on the company. (I used the equivalent of Benjamin Moore for my cabinets. It has zero cyan and zero magenta and just a teeny amount of yellow. If the yellow was higher it would make it warm, but it's so little so it doesn't have that effect). There is no paint that has zero everything (which would be a perfect white). So all whites have a touch of something. And the LRV is quite high at 86%...See MoreKitchen Countertop question
Comments (7)The two I felt closest were LG Minuet and Zodiaq Coarse Carrara. I'm going with Zodiaq Coarse Carrara but I don't have it installed yet. I did see a large slab and I took my sample to compare to real carrara marble and felt it was a good match. I went to my local home show where I was able to see dozens of companies samples as well as some suppliers. It really will depend on what you like so it's best to go where you can see most of them before you decide....See MoreQuartz closest to carrera marble?
Comments (302)Anyone who has put the Calacatta Vicenza, any regrets? I’m leaning towards that for my kitchen but I want my counter tops to be mostly white with just little specks of gray here and there. In some pictures I find Kitchens who have huge chunks of gray and very busy. Any opinions? I was also thinking about cashmere Carrara? Any help is appreciated...See Morehomechef59
