Question about installing a back water valve in basement.

I want to install a back water valve in my house, but only one question remains about the install. I want to install it about 1' inside from the basement wall. The question is, I do not know where the footing drains run to, that drains the perimeter of the lower outside basement wall near the cement floor slab. If it drains on the wrong side of the valve where the toilets & sinks drain "Before the Valve" then I would still have a potential flooding problem! Is it possible that this may be the case?

The only other information I have, is that the house was built in 1973 with PVC sewer lines. I think that I probably will be safe but, need to know for sure before the install.
