This is tricky. In your pics, it seems very orangish. However, the sample is very pink. It's hard to believe it's the same product, actually.

I'm leaning towards a medium gray to give good contrast and bring out the gray in the counter top.

For the walls I'd look for a taupe that matches the little taupe flecks in the counter. Then, for the cabinets, either a darker taupe or maybe a cherry polyshades or cherry gel stain.

@steph2000, it is the same. The seller left all the paperwork related to house "upgrades" including the receipt for the counters. Perhaps the combo of a dark room and fluorescent lighting is throwing you off.

I'd paint it a soft green to help, not enhance, all that orange in there. Something like BM Spring Valley

Thank you all SO much. Every room was painted flat, cream when we moved in, so I've been at the paint store a lot, but this room has been a conundrum for me!

I think the lighting is making the counter appear more orange. If you're going to paint the cabinets, at first I thought white, but I think that's just going to enhance the rose color. I think it might look nice with a dark gray. Maybe something like BM Kendall Charcoal. I think it will help pull the gray from the counter. My first pick would be to stain the cabinets a darker red color. You can upload your photo to BM's site and 'paint' your walls. I'd 'paint' the cabinets instead with their program. Use it mainly for an idea of color and don't pay tons of attention to the names. The lighter colors (whites & beiges) will be the most wonky. It's still can be a helpful starting point. I think SW has one of these programs on their site too.

I uploaded the pic to the Benjamin Moore site the first week we lived here! Alas, I couldn't get the thing to work. It was so frustrating!

Maybe I'll try SW, though I don't use their paints anymore. :)

try colorjive.com. Free, and it has both SW and BM colors.

Try different color temps for lighting first.

Btw, Jeanine, as far as these painting programs go, it really doesn't matter if the color you choose is SW or BM because no color on one of these programs is going to represent, at all, the actual color IRL. What these programs are good for, though, is letting you try out different colors and changing the light to change the hue, and then when you find the color and hue you like, you then set about finding a color at the paint store that "matches" that color. If you use ColorJive, for example and find one or two examples of your kitchen you like, take a screen shot of each, and take your laptop to the paint store with you so you can compare the pics to the paint chips at the store.

I actually have these countertops. I have cream cabinets and burnt orange walls. I can't remember the actual name.

Here are colors pulled from your counters. White with a grey & taupy copper accent might be a reasonable combination.

If you don't love those colors and don't want to decorate two rooms around them it might be better to wait and change the counters instead.

I would look for a greenish taupe for the walls, such as BM Grant Beige HC-83 and others on the same strip. BM Edgecomb Gray HC-173 tends to look pink or purple in many rooms, and would not neutralize the counter. Lancaster whitewash HC-174 is a warm neutral for the cabinets if you do not want brighter white. I painted an old chest of drawers this color and was surprised to see how white it looked, but much softer than bright white. Good for you (!) in removing the fluorescent light and having the ceiling made smooth. You have a good grasp on improvements. Congratulations on your new home.

I think the first step will be to paint the cabinets and then revisit some wall color possibilities.

Wow! Very nice. It is an interesting color, isn't it? You may want to paint the walls first so you don't get paint on the white cabinets. I can't tell how much wall space you have. Your kitchen is going to look totally new! Congrats!

I know you didn't ask, but I'd replace the counters rather than change everything else to go with them. I think they're the gorilla in the room.

The counters will go when we do a full remodel, but there are other projects that come first. It's an older house.

I think the whitewash looks great! If you are able to paint the cabinets, that will really change it all up for you and wall color will definitely be open. I do like the ones in Beverlyfla's post, particularly the ones that would be considered beige and taupe.

How about Benjamin Moore coastal fog. A good in between neutral color- grey-ish green that pretty much looks wherever.

I think Benjamin Moore Clay Beige is the perfect color for you. The undertones fit nicely with your copper tones but it has a tic of gray too in certain light. It should do a nice job of neutralizing the countertop color in the big picture but at the same time keeping with what's "in". Unless of course you want the countertop to pop. If so, go with something with a green undertone. I wouldn't but it's your house. This is a color where the sample should be left to view in all lighting. Sometimes it will look like a very warm Gray and other times it looks warm beige/gray (sort of).

UPDATE!

Lancaster Whitewash worked out nicely! The kitchen still needs a total gut, but I can live with this while we prepare for that (and remodel some bathrooms first).

It is so much brighter with the cabinets painted white, and removing the uppers over the peninsula was a good call.

I think green paint would really emphasize the pink/red tones in the counter, which is fine if that's what you want. I'd personally go with a taupe or a brown gray, like Beverly posted. A blue-gray might work too.

Bennington Gray hallway and on top of post, it looks different in lighter rooms but always neutral.

I'm posting late here but chose this same counter top years ago, still have it, and thought I'd share. I initially hired a decorator and she asked how did I want my kitchen to 'feel'- I said warm and inviting-she said- Benjamin Moore's Shellburn Buff, HC28. It is by far the best color, or color family, to compliment this counter top. Place the chip next to the counter and you will see how it stands up to the copper and makes it look rich-not washed out and pinkish. I am now, after 10 plus years, needing to repaint but, to this day, most everyone who walks into my house compliments my kitchen.
