Favorite Laundry Detergents/Soaps
Comments (27)Annasaurus: "Where did you buy your Arm & Hammer DeliCare at? I've been looking EVERYWHERE for it (CVS, Walgreens, Target, various other brick & mortar stores, etc.) but can't seem to find it anywhere within the last couple of years. I used to buy it at CVS or Safeway nearby but don't seem to be carrying it any longer ...? The only handwash detergent I ever see is Woolite, which I don't like at all. Is it discontinued (I hope not)? Where can I find it? If anyone knows please clue me in!" We used to use DeliCare, also, preferring it to Woolite, but we have not seen it on the shelf in years. However, before it had disappeared from the shelves, we found a better delicate fabric detergent, Ecover Delicate Wash; we prefer Ecover to DeliCare in every way. Ecover recently changed the scent for some reason, and some people do not like the new scent. Reactions to scents are very highly subjective, but everyone agrees that the performance of Ecover Delicate Wash is outstanding. Then there is Eucalan Lavender Fine Fabric Wash 16.9 Ounce, which you can purchase through Amazon.com. We still use the Ecover Delicate Wash on those occasions when we launder delicates in the automatic washing machine; but for hand-washing delicates, Eucalan has completely supplanted all other products in our household; it is a miracle formulation. Here is a link that might be useful: Link for Ecover Delicate Wash...See MoreLiquid vs Dry (Again Please)
Comments (2)I have hard water and used many detergents, dry and liquid. Did not experinced deposits left anywhere in the washer but I always use hot or sanitary and extra rinses. Did not notice difference in between powder or liquid other then I have tendency to spill over the liquid. I always put all detergent right in the drum so I never clean the dispenser. I had white film/ residue once in the corner of my gasket after using roma and zote. It did go away after couple of washes. I love Persil but the cost for now forced me to look for cheap stuff so I bought roma and loved it, tried focca, ariel, well I mixed all of it together plus other leftover powders and now using this mix. Cascade works as a boost too. CS did not work for me and I would never use STPP. It seems too harsh for the machines. I don't use bleach either. I hate Tide w/ passion. It suds up like crazy and leaks from the bottom of one washer.Vinegar in the rinse and prewash helps too....See MoreWhat is your favorite HE detergent and why?
Comments (53)My FL (Frigidaire GLTF2940ES) is being delivered in about 2 weeks. Was going to buy one in a couple of years but my horrible 14yo Admiral TL went kerflooey rather dramatically about a week ago and moved the schedule up a tad! I've been reading and reading and reading and I still have several questions regarding detergents. So I'm seeing two "green" detergents discussed here, Bi-O-Kleen and Seventh Generation. Any others recommended? I have chemical sensitivities - let's not even TALK about stuff like Tide Free, ugh! - and admit to a big ole hippie streak as a result. :-) We've been using Seventh Generation products off and on for years, in fact the jug of 7G detergent in my laundry room now is the Free & Clear HE because they didn't have the non-HE in the giant jugs that were on sale, so I'll surely start with that just to use it up but I note reports of "meh" cleaning. Has anyone used BioPac? Their website says their "Ultra" products are HE-OK, and I've had no reaction to their detergent in the past - I know home FLs and commercial ones are different animals, but it worked very well in the laundromat FLs. Is the Bi-O-Kleen Free & Clear as effective as the Premium Plus, which seems to have the most fans? We'll be using mostly cool and warm washes just because we own virtually nothing that should be washed in hot - our sheets and towels are colored and we have purchased very little white clothing for years because of high iron content in the water - although I did see the info about biofilm and will take that under advisement. (I am not at all comfortable with leaving the washer door open lest our adorable but not very bright cat climb in to explore, since she cannot be closed out of the laundry area. We have always kept the top loader closed due to inquisitive cat and never got mold/mildew in that, is this a pretty good indicator that we may be fairly OK with the FL?) Do some natural detergents work better in these lower temperatures than others? Should I stick with liquids for the cooler washes for complete dissolution? How about dealing with vegetable oils - my DH does massage and often gets jojoba or grapeseed oil on his dark blue jersey sheets. Hot water sets the oil and the eventual oil-funk, we ruined I don't know how many sheets while he was in massage school! We've always used a very small dollop of CitraSolv or other degreaser in the TL but that's a no go with the FL, right? Any massage therapists (or fry cooks ;-)) out there combatting grease spots? Do any of the "specialty" detergent companies send out samples, or can they be obtained in very small packages to try out? (I can get BioPac by the ounce at my local health food store, but that's the only one I know of.) Buying these machines in the first place has kicked our budgetary buns, the notion of buying $10+ packages of detergent that may well sit on the shelf gives me the shakes! Most of our friends don't even have their own washing machines, much less fancy-pants FLs, so moochingsharing ;-) with them won't work....See MoreMy mom is playing favorites - AGAIN!
Comments (38)Kim I couldn't find your first post. ARe there other issues that I am missing. Does your mother not show you or your son love? Unless I am missing something it doesn't seem like it is your mom's or your niece's fault on the day that she wants to have her Christmas. Like I said in a previous post, my mother gets my nephew every other Friday night and so when I plan my kids birthday party I always (so to include him) make sure to have them on a weekend that my mother will have him. It's not his fault that his mother is being this way and doesn't give him up any extra :( I am only saying this because you were upset that you had to halt the norm but it's not your niece or your mom's fault. I think I would be more upset if my mom had Christmas with my nephew and my kids on different days. My traditions of Christmas with my kids is on Christmas day but whenever anyone else chooses to give them a Christmas present I don't care if it is 2 weeks before or 2 weeks after. You said that if you have to ask her to show love then it is not worth it.. what does she do? It sounds like she spent a lot on you for Christmas by getting you something that you really wanted.. even though you told her that it was too expensive. Does she do other things that are making you feel this way? I think it would bother me more if my mom didn't care if she had all of her grandkids together... meaning if she cared more for your niece she could have just did Christmas Day with your son and not included him she could have had just her granddaughter on the 15th.. but she obviously wanted both of them together. Anyway.. let me know if I am missing something. The fact that your mom is keeping her all night and not your son would probably bother me but from the way that you talk your mom works full time and from what I can understand she doesn't get this little girl except during this time so she probably feels that she has to get her then if she wants a relationship with her whereas you are not holding him from her. Has she always kept her all night or has this just started?...See Morelarsi_gw
