Slugs will be around anytime you provide a good, healthy soil that is well endowed with organic matter and is propely mulched since that creates the conditions that slugs really like to live in, a cool, moist environment with ample food nearby. If the slugs are outside of the bed the plants they like are growing in the copper strips could keep them out, but if they are already in the soil n the bed the copper strips will be an expensive, and useless, attempt at control. I find that I have less trouble with slugs when the mulch is quite heavy, apparently they have ample food in that mulch and leave the growing plants alone. Saucers of stale beer can be a less expensive method of control and encouraging toads and garter snakes to hang around the garden is another.

Well if the Dimension computer has a separate video card - as opposed to onboard - and if both computer have the same video slot (AGP or PCIe) you could move the card from the dimension to the Inspiron to see how it looks before spending money perhaps. My folks kept 3 freezers outside. One in the carport, two others in a detached garage. The Norge lasted about 30-35 years. After 20+ years, they sold the 2nd and third, then bought a smaller unit. Still in the carport. They all plugged in to standard outlets that were present in the garage and carport at the time.

I agree with Jean, above. Inside the garage is your best bet, especially since it apparently hasn't gone into dormancy yet. Another option for overwintering plants in pots is to sink the pot into the ground for the winter and mulch well.
