Wow, that's a nice spacious kitchen! That arched window is going to be amazing. Congratulations. You must be SOOOO excited!

One quick thing I saw. Maybe move the DW to the right side of the main sink so when it is open it isn't blocking you from moving from sink to cooktop easily.

Yet with 25 ft across (am I seeing that right cuz my eyes are bad) I would actually consider putting in 2 DW's - one on each side of the sink or one in the island. :)

I have a similar setup as far as placement of my sink, range, and island (yet much smaller then yours). I scored on a barely used viking DW and a fisher & paykel double dish drawer for free, so I was determined to used them in my kitchen design. I have my regular DW on the right of my sink and the dd's across on the island. My isles from sink to island is 54" also. It works awesome for loading dishes from the sink as I can have them all open at same time.

Anyways, not sure if that's something you would need, I just thought since you have such a big space it might be nice.

Thank you very much. We are very excited. Yes I did consider two dw. I might just add a drawer dw instead another full one. I am switching my dw to the right... good eye! That will be very helpful in the future.

I was going to do white cabinets, dark mahogany island.. Traditinal/transitional style. Grayish countertops...

I cook almost every meal, every day.... We are a family that lives in the kitchen.. Like most.

One more thing I just noticed regarding the breakfast nook area. Were you planning to put a small table in front of the bay window bench and a couple chairs on the isle side?

If so, it seems like the chairs would be crowding into the isleway near the corner of the island. Looks like the island is 9'9" x 6' which is pretty big. What if you shortened the island from 6' to line it up with where the oven cabinet ends and the nook window seat begins. You would still have plenty island overhang for bar stools. It would also give more space for opening the french door fridge on the other side also.

Your layout is actually very similar to what I just did in my kitchen, with my island being smaller -- at about 4x7ft, and the space accordingly smaller. Works great for me, and I like your space! Moving the DW to the right of the sink is important, I agree.

Another thought. I'd consider pushing your cleanup sink down the wall towards the right instead of centering it. When you design your cabinetry, you can center something lovely if you want a focal point there under what I am guessing is a window arch of some sort? (Maybe some special cabinetry stuff -- like a baking center . . .) Pushing that sink (and DW) down that wall will open up more nice prep/baking/etc space on that main wall and provide sink access closer to that entire right half of the kitchen.

My sinks and cook top are laid out just about exactly as yours are now (except the DW on the right), and I generally use the island sink for cooktop water, etc. Only down side is that if you're making a mess by the cooktop, you do have to drag all those sloppy onion peels, etc either across the aisle to the island or a ways down the counter. Works OK for me, but something to consider.

IMHO, your "work triangle" that is drawn should include the prep sink instead of the clean up sink . .. so, your work triangle is actually quite compact, so I wouldn't worry that the clean up sink moving right would make it too long/big.

Depending on what that arch feature is on that sink/DW wall . . . have you considered swapping the sink and cooktop locations? The sink could be under a window looking out to the screen porch (and beyond), and the cooktop could be the focal point on that big wall. It might be nice to have the cooktop further away from your fridge (if it's as busy as mine is! My fridge is in a different location than yours, so that's not an issue for me.) If you did that, you could move the prep sink to the back right corner of the island instead of the back left.

id say put the oven near the fridge its so convenient

That is going to be an awesome kitchen! I totally agree with all of rebunky's suggestions which will make it even more awesome. I know I sound articulate but my vision of your completed kitchen is almost making me speechless, lol. I'm not one that tends to get jealous but I'm feeling that green monster right now. :)

What about turning the island 90 degrees so the working side faces the cooktop? Then, you'll have more space b/w the island and the Nook. Also, I suggest making the doorway b/w the Pantry/Sliding Door to Porch area and the Kitchen at least 36" (It looks like that doorway is only 30").

Thank you so much for all your thoughts. I am most definitely going to shorten the island so i can have room to move around the breakfast nook.

I thought about putting the cooktop in the window but I do not like to have a huge hood come down to cover the window... and the downdraft cooktops (which I have now.. I am not a fan of.. no pun indented). I also i do want to clean the cooking/oil splatter off the window every other day. There is a really nice mountain-ish view that is why I chose the big window.

I like keeping the sink centered since I like to keep everything symmetrical.

I am not sure how I feel about rotating the island. I will look at the space again when I get closer. It is a good option for more room/seating... but I am not sure if i need that much.

I also like making the doorway bigger for the pantry area. I think i am going to change the pantry pocket door to a swing door... I do not need tons of finger print/dirt from constantly opening pocket doors to the pantry.

I am far off... We are pouring the slab next week. We are 6 months behind from permits and snow. I can not wait til its done. I will post tons of pictures... And I know I will need some more of your thoughts/opinions along the way.
