What would your home look like if your spouse had to decorate?
Comments (52)Tannantok, you're describing my DH's place when I met him! He also had a beer can collection growing on his back patio. He owned virtually no dishes (eating out of the pan was the norm). When you walked in the door you were greeted by a picture of a big haired blonde wearing suspenders and not much more. Laminated to a piece of charred wood. Given to him by his mother. Current decorating would be blankets tacked up to the windows, but he'd also have 1000 watt lights all over the place. I tell him the sun would not provide enough light for him. Clothing would adorn all the lamp shades (if he used lamp shades at all...probably adorn the curtain rods. Bathtowels would be the floor mats. Steak knives would pin up things to the walls, and EVERY wall would have something pinned to it. He'd have a ginormous sofa with blankies and his dogs. No pillows, except for what was on the floor. And every cupboard would be doorless and the drawers self closing....See MoreWhat's your decorating superpower?
Comments (35)Definitely my visualization 'capabilities'! The picture in my minds eye usually matches up to the completed project, whether it's furniture placement or a flower arrangement. I don't know if it's a 'gift' or something learned thru trial and error, but i've been playing the 'decorating game' since I was in my early twenties,. My parents purchased new 'blonde' bedroom furniture and gave us their mahogany Federal style furniture which I immediately painted an antique white, since I hated 'old furniture'. Of course I wouldn't do that now, but that was the start to having something unique and I followed my vision. I also believe vision and imagination go hand-in-hand....See MoreWhat Are Your Decorating Criteria?
Comments (32)My views of comfort have changed as I've aged. I always thought there could be nothing more comfortable than my down-filled sofas and my tufted leather club chair and ottoman at my previous home. When I developed a bone spur in my hip, I could barely stand up after sitting on "sink into it" luxurious down cushions or in the club sofa that put my hips lower than my legs. After I sold my house, I gave my sectional sofa to one son and my leather club chairs to the other. My orthopedist told me to find sofas and chairs that didn't have loose cushions, that had taut or tufted seats that were sturdy and supportive. That's what I did and she was correct. I no longer limp and hop when I get up off my new sofas or new chairs. But, those styles are more formal and/or modern and light. So, I've had to change my approach to what I like, versus what is good for my body. I'll have to decorate around these new looks....See MoreWhat rooms in your home do you decorate for the holidays?
Comments (45)We're always away for the holidays so I like to keep decorations to a minimum. Since we downsized to a downtown condo last year, our decorations are limited to kitchen/dining/living areas. No holiday decor for master and guest bedrooms or bathrooms. I personally like small items so I limited the decor to a charlie brown tree with some ostrich feathers that I thought I was going to discard (but found new use for them), and some spherical ornaments in a bowl and coffee table. random balls: I like the LED glass spheres because they look like the Amazon biospheres a couple blocks from the condo, so I might keep them on the coffee table after the holidays. :)...See More- 9 years ago
