Looking for H. Mandonii seed

Hi Folks

Im looking for H. Mandonii seed that I can purchase, Im in OZ, if you could point me in the right direction that would be great!

Yes! I have seed coming from the US, should be here any day, I was also able to obtain an 18 month old seedling here in Australia.

Species wise I'm growing:

aulicum, calyptratum, blossfeldiae, iguazuanum, mandonii, papilio, psittacinum, morelianum, yungacense.

All are growing from seed so quite young still.

I saw some teyucuarense seeds go for $137.50 on eBay recently, would have loved to have got them however a little too much for me. I have also read that teyucuarense doesn't set seed, do you know?

lovegarden, would you be interested in any other hippeastrums? I have quite a few that have offsets and some extras that are blooming size. I have the following: Clown - single flower, white with red stripes Hippeastrum x johnsonii - St. Joseph's Lily - red with red striping in throat Red Peacock - double mostly red with very little white in the throat Pasedena - another double that is a peach background with white streaking. I have others that I can't think of at this time. please let me know if you are interested.

Nope, not I. They say they should be received by May 15th on their FB page, so I'm going to wait until tomorrow afternoon before I call them. The thing is, last time I called, they didn't even have a way of tracking my order. I realize it's free, but you'd think I'd be entered into a system somehow and somewhere... Next year they should go back to offering free seeds to charities instead, since that seemed to work just fine. I certainly won't be ordering from them in the future.

Here is the excerpt from the article I was talking about. Vigor is an attribute of H. papilio and bulbs are comparatively large. This vigor is passed on to progeny with several parent combinations. Flower characteristics is another issue. Most H. papilio crossed with another species usually will result in F1 seedlings which show flowers influenced by the other parent. Flower form and size may be affected, but color predictably will be dominated by the other parent. Without parent knowledge, one would be hard pressed to visually identify H. papilio traits in many of its F1 hybrids. The same may hold true with the F2 generation unless back crossed with H. papilio (and this could be a longer shot than expected). Third generation F3 crosses with both parents having H. papilio in the parent trail have produced seedlings that reveal some H. papilio traits. (And a limited few are somewhat close.) h. mandonii: advice on starting seeds, maintaining plants?

Hi Rick, I can't exactly say I have any actual advice on growing mandonii but, I do have two plants, one I've managed to keep alive for well over a year and the other I've had for several months. Currently they are both in a south facing bay window with lots and lots of sun. I use the same gritty medium as I do for my other hippies and not really much chance of overwatering in the hot sunny window. As I said, no real advice, just kind of limping along hoping for the best. They do grow new leaves that are extremely narrow and I feed with a mild miracle grow each time I water. No experience with mandonii seeds though...my larger bulb (and I use the term larger loosely) has yet to bloom. I think when I bought my first mandonii I asked advice on this forum so when I get the time I'll do a search again to see what info was offered, you might do the same..Good Luck! Yes, I had read this about teyucuarensis and also h.evansiae. Something else I had read about teyucuarensis indicated that the entire population is infected with mosaic virus, tho asymptomatic.

As you probably saw on this site, I've been posting about my mandonii going into bud. My collection of species hipps has been much like yours, with many young seedlings, and great anticipation. Now, several of these seedlings have finally matured and started to bloom--h.evansiae last month, and mandonii now. Have you located Mauro in Brazil?

I wonder about supposed teyucuarensis seeds for sale, as I had thought this species couldn't produce it's own species seed?

I hope your new mandonii grow as fast as mine did. Keep us posted!

So Far my H. teyucuarensis has no evidence of virus.Here it is..Hopefully it will bloom next season. Your H. mandonii is stunning!!
