Brake fluid flush

I've had new brakes installed in the past.

However, I've never had the brake fluid in my reservoir changed since
I've owned the car. I bought it in 2001. The fluid in the reservoir is
dark black.

Yesterday I checked with my local Goodyear (since it's around the corner
from me). They told me they would charge me about $100 to do a flush.

Today I checked with the closest Pep Boys. They said that they do not do a flush for a car that's as old as mine.

  1. I'm assuming that I should get a brake fluid flush as soon as possible? Pardon me if this is a really stupid question to ask.

  2. Is $100 a reasonable charge or are there other places that have better deals?

I just figured it never hurts to ask.
