True. I do feel that some have gone overboard in expressing their feelings, to the point of perhaps being inconsiderate of the the feelings of others. I'm the one who initially pointed out that some people are "wired" to be easily perturbed by this sort of thing, but I never read that they had no choice but to get overemphatic at a rare opportunity to express their feelings. (This subject must some psychological connection with the taking-off-shoes-in-the-homes-of-others issue, another one that leads some to get a little carried away.) Note, please, also that that bathroom door is on the other side of the home's central hall--and has its own door. It's very highly unlikely to be a code violation. Energie, I think your initial question was answered, right? :) IMO, the answers on this thread definitely overstate the negatives--to you. As others who've lived with bathroom doors right in the kitchen have said, they don't feel they're a problem worth getting excited over. I agree. If I had one, I'd paper it with red and white flying pigs so people would smile when they saw it.

The gold strips would basically act as your grout. Kind of like this: almost like a brass inlay.

Thoughts on something like this? Obviously badly photoshopped, but to give an idea (sconces would be both sides, presumably behind the wall that protrudes there). Wallpaper to add contrast... dark gray/black, gold accents. Not sure how I feel about this mirror, but I'm not used to small mirrors... In truth, this is more up my alley - huge, gaudy, antique-y mirror.... I'm assuming this is a big no? Is there some sort of a rule where size of mirror is concerned? Also, are round mirrors still a trend? I saw them pop up 5-6 years ago and wasn't sure if they'll look dated in the next year or two?

If the 36" tub fits and allows the proper on-center distances for the toilet, I don't think the wider tub will have any negative effect on the size of the bathroom, because it is at the "end" of the bathroom, and it may be a more comfortable tub for someone to use, compared with the narrower one. If you do not have a walk in shower, I would probably replace one of the tubs with a walk in shower of the same size as the tub. It's easy enough, doesn't change the plan, and may be useful if someone breaks an arm or a leg, or has trouble climbing over the rim of a tub. Or standing in a tub to take a shower: sometimes the bottom of a tub is not flat enough or wide enough for someone who has balance issues.
