Anyone know of a good cast iron soaker tub for one?
Comments (6)Thanks for the advice! I looked at the Ironworks tub and thought it wouldn't be deep enough (it's 12 5/8" to the overflow). I did just find the Hampshire claw foot tub by Victoria and Albert (water depth is 15 3/4") and it looks like it could work because you can use it as a drop-in as well, without the feet. Does anyone know if the Englishcast material insulates as well as a cast iron tub? The main reason I was looking at cast iron was because I wanted the water to stay hot and the weight wouldn't be an issue since this bathroom is on concrete slab. Seems from the literature that Englishcast is supposed to insulate quite well. Anyone have one of their tubs? They're so pretty I'm now considering changing the bathroom design for a free-standing tub since I love the wooden legs you can use instead of the claw feet. Comments (5)I purchased a free-standing, composite soaking tub from Devon & Devon (D&D) (they have a clawfoot, but I chose a different style). Two advantages of composite over acrylic: it holds the heat, and scratches or stains can be easily "buffed out" with light sand paper. The D&D tub has a satin-like matte finish. I use Windex to clean it. D&D is pricey, but after trying out tubs for months, it was my favorite, and I was willing to wait several more months for delivery. Other brands I considered: Wetstyle (from Canada), Bain Ultra, Toto, Kohler, Duravit, Blu Bathworks, Mti, Hydrosystems, Axor, and T&L. Zucchetti and V&A tubs were tempting - but I didn't like the look of the exposed drain pipe....See MoreDog bath station: convert old cast iron bath tub?
Comments (12)Why Sanitary napkins as shown in the photo? Also lotion? Are you going to do a hot water hook up to the tub? I know people who have had hot water hook up outside so they can rinse and wash the dogs before they come in the house. I always bring my boy in and use the warm water and sprayer in the tub. He jumps in and out by himself, does not slip on the non -slip bottom, but one of those rubber mats would work....See MoreDo solid stone alcove tubs exist? Cast Iron vs Acrylic vs One piece
Comments (21)It looks like you want a tub that is wider, longer and possibly deeper than your current one. There is a good chance that you will need a larger conventional water heater or an on-demand water heater to fill it properly. If you use a pocket door anywhere, be sure it is a solid core door to reduce sound transfer. If this were my bathroom, I'd remove the closet but leave a partition wall against which the door would open. Then I'd move the toilet far enough toward that wall to put a new tub roughly where the current one is. I'd put any money saved on extensive channeling toward a Toto Neorest toilet....See Morenumbersjunkie
