It's March- How is your build progressing?
Comments (81)Some impressive homes here! My parents are building on a much smaller, simpler scale than most of those shown in this thread. They elected to go with a builder that will do most of the work himself vs one that subbed everything out. Upside is that it will save them money and the GC is always on-site and giving his full attention to this project. Downside is that it will take a while to complete many of the stages. At the same time, going slowly, we have been able to make many changes and really think things over where it might have been too late with a quick build (or too late to do it without incurring an additional cost). I am going out about twice a week now to take pictures and keeping them in an online album. My parents live on the land and see it everyday, so they didn't see any reason to take any pictures, but now they are seeing how it is nice to have a record of it and to be able to share the progress with the family. A lot of the pictures don't really mean anything unless you know exactly what you are looking at, but hopefully they are almost to the stage where things will really start coming together. I have floor plans in the slide show, but they are not exact. The plans were drawn off my plans but I never bothered to have the builder send me an electronic copy. To make an easy to read version, I had done it up in 6" blocks. Easy to read, but obviously not to scale as our interior wall are not 6" thick, etc. However, it should be close enough for people to get a general idea of the layout. The link below takes you to the album. Comments (129)We got our Certificate of Occupancy this past Wednesday from the County & can legally move in now if we wanted. Of course, the Bank has to send their inspector out too, no all clears yet. This time next week- 1st weekend of April - we will be moving in. It took 228 days so far & the last couple weeks have been just a mad dash to the finish line for our crew. Awaiting the grass, final tweaks & cleanup - then walk-thru on Tuesday... Comments (150)andrew-love dormers, that is an amazing transformation. Are you living IN it mid demo? I am a fellow Michigander as well. Michelle-ummm, well yes there are a *few* things I would change, lol. Overall it's fine but I really really really wish we would have buffered the master area a little better due to the opposite shift thing. I love that I can get into the bathroom/closet without disturbing dh (and turn the lights on and see my clothes and all that fun stuff) but wish we would have had the closet between the bedroom and the bath instead of the other way around. I do wake up when he comes home at 3 a.m. and that is a bummer because I never used to. But for normal schedules the layout we have would have been just fine. The other thing is I think I would have put a door in by our locker area that faces front - a friend/family type entrance. Not a big deal but I think we would have used it. The locker area is functioning well and I like that it's not in the walk way if all the gear doesn't get put away every time. According to dh I still have boxes in the barn that belong in the kitchen - say what? My kitchen is already functioning so what could they be??? Lol. After it warms a bit I will have to check it out. We are mostly settled though and I know where most everything is now, hehehe. My current hearts desire is grass. The dirt of course is covered by snow right now but I know it's there! I love my closet organizer system, that I have room to dress in my closet. I love my cabinets and my blum glides and my woodhollow inserts in my kitchen. I love my property and that our living areas face the back and that we get to enjoy that view every single day. I was also going to comment on your back yard discovery, did you snow shoe or cross country? I can't remember now but I remember that pic - awesome. We found a whole trail system behind our house and I feel like we hit the jackpot. It is amazing. It is an equestrian trail but this time of year no horses on it - there are snowmobile trails too. DH and I have been doing some hiking. I love the fresh air and it is so beautiful to look at. I will be checking in time to time. I still covet your office off your kitchen. :D aimless-I keep reading my head Horton Hears a Who and was looking for a Dr. Seuss sign or something!...See MoreIt's July 2015 (Part II): How's your build progressing?
Comments (140)We are about the same place as Stephanie-Sara, maybe a bit further. Foundations and underground storage room floor and walls all poured and waterproofing on, backfill almost finished. Garage is ready for pad which will be poured next Tuesday Aug 4th. They have started putting the floor joists in and the plywood is here for the decking. Meeting with builder and architect on Thursday to finalize window/door choices as they will be ready for them before we know it. Been fighting uphill battle with architect because I want gliders and she wants casements....whose house is it? I have won on most except a couple of small awning type which are fine. The real *working* windows will be gliders. Also appliance finalizations....still debating refrigerator. Next spring/early summer hopeful finish date....See Morealmostemptynester
