Happy Fourth of July
Comments (17)Maryl - The main reason I bought Judy's Jewel was to cross with former Valentine Sweetheart. It's in the same color class, but larger. So the fact it doesn't multiply much and isn't very tall isn't important to me. It's a big fader too, where former VS holds its color much better. I'm trying to get a taller Val. Swhrt with a bloom size of 7 inches or more. I have some buds on JJ, but I don't know if they'll make it in this heat. I've also crossed it with Dancing Flamingo both seasons. Comments (47)We had more neighbors shooting off large fireworks (rockets and LOUD noisemakers - one made the house shake!) than ever before both Saturday and Sunday. At least one neighbor had a rocket land on her roof - fortunately no damage. The increase in people setting off fireworks in the past year - for a week before and after around many holidays, and randomly too (which we sometimes have to asked if it was gunfire, since that is also increasing in adjacent sections of the surrounding city - and it sometimes is) has been a hot topic from time to time on the neighborhood page. We have some vets with PTSD in the neighborhood, and a plethora of dogs who apparently aren't descended from hunting breeds. There was a comment about the unfortunate death of the Columbus hockey team's goalie due to an errant rocket - and the one neighborhood person who is always pooh-poohing complaints about the fireworks responded with "accidents happen."...See MoreHappy Fourth of July!
Comments (9)Thank you, Jackie! I’ll bookmark the thread/photo and see if I can find a close match. This variety is really lovely! Dark purple clematises are the ones I graviate toward, too. I also love deep red-purple Niobe. I have lots of anonymous plants in my garden, but like you, I’ve labeled all my roses. I am trying to write all my currently identified plants in a chart as I rearrange the beds this spring, but time will tell if good intentions keep up with the task. Your clematis looks wonderful on the tuteur! Carol...See MoreHAPPY FOURTH OF JULY!
Comments (6)Thank you - an example of serendipity - I grew the white rose (Sombreuil) on that support on purpose, but the clematis and the red rose (Cl Crimson Glory) jumped up there from nearby on their own. Jackie...See Moredigdirt2
