I wore them back in the 80's. Then and now they are more like an accessory. They can look very natural...this comes from where you buy. You need real hair, and they should be on a net base. I would suggest visiting several wig stores. And trying several on. Like a stylish hat....you need to try many on to find the right one.

I would love to see wigs becoming more popular. I'd wear one on bad hair days for sure!

The ones I have seen don't look natural because the wig needs to be thinned. My sister has worn one for years because of thinning hair. I suggested she thin it and she said "but that is why I wear it, it's thick". I told her it screamed wig and the next time I saw it had been trimmed and looked natural. I looked at them one time and the lady agreed they need to be thinned to look natural. When we talked another customer came in and had the neatest hair cut. I told the clerk "if you had a wig like her hair I would be interested". She said it is a wig. It was a pixie cut. I don't think I could stand to wear one and would be afraid the Kansas wind would take it away.

Back in the 70's I wore what was called a wiglet. It was on top of my head. Usually it was put on by a beautician. It looked nice. But one day I was running out the door and didn't pin it down as well as I should have. At the time we lived in Ohio and it was a windy day. when I got out of the car a big gust of wind came along and there went my wiglet right under the car next to me. I had to get down on my knees to retrieve it. Needless to say I changed my hairstyle. I had a good laugh over the wiglet. Still laugh about it.

We used to have a great time with hair additions back in the 70's. Wiglets, falls....does anyone else here remember the little synthetic wash (woolite) and wear wigs? I had a wardrobe of hair pieces from a shoulder length fall to a little poufy thing to add volume at the crown without teasing. A human hair auburn wig. A few of the little synthetic types, I can remember frizzing one around the front opening the oven door to take food out - they didn't like a blast of heat ;) A friend of mine was genius at the dressy styles and would take my fall home with her, do it 'in curls', then with my own hair slicked into a knot on top to anchor it to, I had instant hair, 'up in curls'.

I tried a couple on just for fun a couple of years ago and they were not as comfortable as I'd remembered. But back then, we were sleeping on rollers, back combing, spraying....nothing like the blow dry casual feels-good of today.

Yup...I had a wig back in the early 70's. Great for summer no walking around with my hair in rollers - that was too 60's.

Way back in the early 70's I was a CNA and subject to being on call. I had a really good wig that I could pop on and be out the door. No one ever questioned it. I have a picture of me wearing the wig, but I've never scanned/saved it. No need for a wig now, and thankfully I haven't had a thinning problem...yet. I still have that wig though, just in case.

my hair is getting quite thin. I can work with it so it doesn't look so bad, but it takes a long time getting it done.

My husband likes to get out in the mornings and many times will call me to come meet him for lunch.

I would love to have a wig that I could just shake and wear.

I've thought also of getting a "wiglet" to fill in where it is getting thin.

I have a friend who has been a stylist for many years. I was talking about it to her a couple weeks ago. I said I wanted a natural hair one. She said "oh no....just get a synthetic one. They have every color you could want and will blend right in with your hair"

I have a wig which I wear when I have to run an errand first thing in the morning. My hair is an absolute nightmare in the mornings. It sticks out in every direction and is impossible to tame until I Wash and style it. I originally got a wig for when I go camping. After the first night I look HORRIBLE. so on goes the wig for the rest of the stay. There are so many options out there, and I have never been told it looks bad. I even wore it one night to a card game with 7 other gals. No one knew it was a wig! And they have known me for 30 years!

Mine aren't hot, and I live in Arizona.

I have a hairpiece that wraps around a bun, if that counts. Haven't worn it in ages because it needs to be revived. May do that. And I am looking at a really long darker colored full wig. Just for fun. Like this, except it matches my hair color

one of my good friends wears wigs daily. She has several we never know what hair style she will have. But she has maybe 5 hairs on her entire head. She lost all of her hair fairly young from alopecia. She looks very natural in hers.
I have one that is short like my hair and is black with the silver in it. I got it because some of my meds are making my hair thin a lot. But I just can not stand to wear it. I feel like it is itching me constantly and I want to keep adjusting it. Maybe you get used to that but I just could not do it. It has the mesh and is able to breathe is extremely light weight and looks very very natural on me. Everyone thought it was my hair that I had just got a slightly different cut and style. It sits on it's head in the closet lol
I love hats and caps and I have a lot of them but I rarely wear them because I just don't think I look good with them on. I envy women who can just throw on a cap or hat and look fabulous. I do wear them when we are on vacation or at the beach, RVing etc.

I have 3 Raquel Welch wigs. I love them, bought the first to use on a trip and save time messing with my hair. RW wigs are extremely light and you really forget you're wearing one. All of them have medium brown roots and blonde highlights. I get tons of compliments on my hair and just, gracefully, say "thank you". Instead of wearing a hat all winter, it use what I call my "hair hat", looks good and I stay warm. Since they're so similar to my own hair people are shocked when I tell them it's a wig.

My sister-in-law's hair is very, very thin, so she wears a cap with hair attached to it - she looks really nice and stylish!

There is also the option of a weave.

I was fitted with a wig after my hair fell out from chemo. Couldn't stand the thing. Felt like I had a dead squirrel on my head.

My hair is thinning. I took a look at some of the online wig companies and the wigs do seem very nice.

I don't really have a picture of how one anchors the wig to one's head? And also of course I don't want to feel like I am wearing a dead squirrel. Plus for where I live near Houston it is quite warm for most of the year and I wonder whether a wig will be too hot?

Interesting AAA, I know a lady that has this but I never knew how that all worked. All I knew is she wore some sort of a "permanent" wig that she washed in the shower. It was somehow attached to her head? So now I understand what it is! I've always been intrigued by it and very curious. IMHO it does just look as if she is wearing a wig though. What is the advantage of having it attached to your hair? I think I'd rather just wear a wig so I could properly wash my head.

I just got 2 of the wigs I ordered and love them. They are anchored with an elastic area and feel pretty secure.

I got one Paula Young and one Joan Collins so they weren't very expensive. Wish I had done this years ago.

I did a lot of research and reading, ordered shampoo made for wigs and those styrofoam wig 'heads'.
