Comments (18)roflmao. Well Daniella I rather dream about your brother then rosepedal's finace. After all we are friends here and sharing is ok. To a point lol I wonder why no girls show up like that when you search for breakfast in bed? Linda don't be a trader...remember our first love is BRUGS lol Could not come back here earlier...Maddy is to young to see this lol I could sit in front of my little angels all day long and watch them. They are so beautiful! But yesterday I tried to take a picture of the one seedling. This is the weirdest thing. I had to take the hard shell off and what popped out of it does not look anything like a brug! Unfortunately it is one of those that Amadeus my cat knocked of the windowsill and is a noid now. But the first real set of leafs is divided into 3 or for little leafs on each side. Can you picture it? Not misformed. I will post a picture ones it gets larger. I KNOW it was a brug seed. Cause I peeled those darn slippery things lol. And no squirl hiding in the house, which could have planted some other seed. Gotta watch out for those squirls, right Kristy lol. WEll enough. I just want to say, that I love the brugs more then anything! Lucy...See MoreNEW: 6500 daylily traveling angels 6500 wow!
Comments (107)Hi everyone! Don't know what happened to my last version of this posting. I had it all written turned around and it was gone :(. Well my brugs are here at home. The very sweet woman who gave this to me and her equally nice husband who dug up and put into my truck each one of these trees made me feel warm and welcomed. Kristi, the woman who gave this to me even brought out toys for my kids so they wouldn't get bored. Not hand me downs - which are prefectly good in my book too - but new, in the box toys she keeps around for just this kind of event. When greeting with this kind of generosity, a simple thanks does not seem enough but she didn't want anything in return. What I brought home were trees taller than me, taller than the inside of my greenhouse. Well they've been well trimmed now and I have cuttings ready to go. Here's what I have to share: Rosamond Versi Peach - limited amount Mayan Magic Maya Arlene's pink Beauty Golden Lady - nice double - but be warned it has a virus. The virus does not spread easily but you have to clean your pruners before you go near another brug. It's lived side by side with the other brugs with no ill effects and grows nicely anyways. I just want you to be warned. Unnamed seedlings of her own crosses. I didn't get butterfly or the big Creamsickle :(. Someone else beat me to it. I can't really complain too loud because the person who got it was a friend who has given me sooooo many plants. Jaye - what kind of truck did you get? DH loves trucks. We've had quite a few. For anyone who wants one post it here or email me with which ones you want. Canna - sorry to hear about your kitty! I had that happen to one once. She survived fine but what a fright! I shudder to think of the pain. MaryS - Can I move in with you??????? That lake looks so peaceful. MaryB - Thanks! Dawn - Did you get my email? Please tell me that you've forgiven my rash comment :( Will more brug cuttings help?????? Hmmm just what I needed - Another plant to collect! Anyone ever had bursitis - just got it in the shoulder. I feel like an invalid. What did you do to help it. My mom said she heard something about Vitamin B. Does this sound familiar? Ellen...See Moreswee' pea's recovery
Comments (7)thanks so much, everybody!! trancegemini, pea's vet is just one in a million! this is our first experience with him. he is an ortho specialist referred by my regular vet. he has amazing compassion and fell in love with pea. when i went to pick her up saturday, he was back in the kennel lovin' on her. he said that since she was such a big girl, the cast would provide a lot of extra stability during the healing process. i am much more confident leaving her alone and going to work for a few hours a day with the cast on. in fact, dr. o'brian told me she would be fine if i just confined her to my bedroom rather than in a crate which was great news for me! i have been watching the dogs on my pet cam and they just sleep the day away. :) i picked up this sling at the vet's office when i brought pea home. we used it quite a bit the first couple of days but it's seldom needed now... her prognosis is excellent. if we follow the rules (no running/playing/jumping, etc.) for the duration, he expects her to make a complete recovery. the arthritis in her knee may cause a slight limp if she overdoes it but i'll be watching her very closely!! i have to say, when i picked her up saturday, she was a pitiful sight! laying in the kennel, trembling, droopy eyed...she looked like she would need intensive care for weeks but she bounced right back when we got home! it was so cute...when we got her out of the van, bentley could hardly contain himself. he ran circles around her and they kissed a hundred times. it was SO adorable!! thanks for all the well wishes, i will keep you updated. :)...See MoreSplit Pea Soup??
Comments (38)Here is a wonderful tried and true recipe from Stefano Faita A French Canadian soup INGREDIENTS 1 tbsp. olive oil 2 tbsp. butter 1 onion, diced 2 carrots, diced 2 celery ribs, diced 2 leeks, diced (white and light green parts only) 2 garlic cloves, chopped 2 cups yellow split peas, rinsed (about 1 pound package) 3 savory or thyme sprigs 1 bay leaf Freshly ground black pepper, to taste 1 leftover ham bone 2 cups diced ham 4 cups chicken stock, preferably unsalted or low sodium 4 to 6 cups water Salt, to taste, if needed Handful flat leaf parsley, chopped Extra virgin olive oil, for garnishing (optional) Parmesan Croutons or crusty bread, for serving PREPARATION Heat the olive oil and butter in a Dutch oven over medium heat. Add the onion, carrot, celery, leek and garlic and cook until soft, about 5 to 7 minutes. Add split peas, savory, bay leaf, black pepper, ham bone, ham and stock. Add enough water to cover the ham bone. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat to low. Gently simmer, stirring occasionally, until split peas are tender, about 1 to 1 1/2 hours. If the soup is too thick, add some water or stock to loosen. Taste and season with salt, if needed. Remove savory and bay leaf before serving. Stir in fresh parsley. If desired, serve with a drizzle with extra virgin olive oil and Parmesan Croutons or slices of crusty bread. Yield: 8 servings....See MoreNinapearl
