What does healthy 2-3 year old wood look like in the center?
Comments (8)It has no open wounds or odor. I havent seen it on many peach trees and it took me a while to actually figure out what it was but it causes the tips of branches to turn black and die and slowly cause the entire stem/branch to die back if not cut at least 12" below the infected area. I have yet to see any open "sores" or cankers on the tree, just the tip/branch die back. Also, I havent had any die back for an entire season, so I hope I have dealt with it. I almost lost my entire tree because the main stem became infected and was dying down before I knew it. I had to cut down to almost the bottom of the trees "graft". It has stopped now for almost 2 years. My tree is about 3-4 years old but is somewhat small due to the first 2 years dealing with the die back. Ive never seen the inside of a cut branch of a peach tree so I was wondering if that picture up above looked normal? That is from a 2 year old branch. Comments (13)LOL, bud! Thanks & love your "pose." You kind of look like my little brother, interesting. That tree is a turkey fig in my Mom's yard. It makes so many figs, just what we can reach is usually way too many. I took that pic 2-3 years ago right after I pruned it extremely heavily. You can't tell, but I removed all of the growth from inside so we could "step into it" and pick from inside & out... or hide a bus full of kids. Great for climbing in there, too. It needs pruning again, which I will do later this summer after the figs are gone. Some of the branches are laying on the ground again. The original owner of the home gets the credit for the beautiful "bones" of the tree, though. All I have done is maintain what was already done so well, removing crossing branches, those going straight down, etc... I'm still not sure how he got it into such a nice "low vase" shape instead of the "naked trunk" appearance of most other trees I've seen in the area, but I've only been a southerner for 5 years, still a lot to learn about the plants & trees that are new to me here. I hope the baby trees from my cuttings will grow up to be even in the neighborhood of such fantastic-ness!...See MoreFirst Year Echinacea from Seed Looks Like a Weed
Comments (8)OK, thanks for responding! Here are some pics. I know it looks like 3 big weeds, but they are growing right where I planted the echinacea seeds. There are 2 echinacea plants at the base of 2 of the weeds. Each echi plant pops out about 1 inch away from the "weed", so it seems like the weed is the feeder plant, and the echinaceas are propagating from the roots of the feeder plant (weed). In other words, it seems like the echinacea seed grows into the weed-like plant, but sends of real echinacea roots which grow into real echinacea. Or else, it is just a coincidence that weeds grew up right next to my echinacea seeds !!...See MoreLooks like pear but with thorns
Comments (2)Compare to Maclura pomifera. If that's not it, please provide us with more info like your location, height of the the tree, woods or planted garden, if there is any milky sap, flowers or fruit on the tree and maybe a picture of the overall form of the tree and a closeup of the bark....See Moreinsteng
