Cabinet hardware-do you mix pulls w/ knobs?
Comments (24)I am close to getting our pulls figured out. I ordered a few samples of my favorites, and narrowed it down; then it was to decide on sizes. I'm trying them out on our existing cabinets, but the style of the new ones won't be terribly different, so it should work out. We have lived without door hardware for 25 years, so putting anything on the doors looks odd to us. I'm still torn between vertical and horizontal on my uppers. I've gone through a lot of 2-sided tape, sticking pulls to doors! I'm going horizontal on the few base cabinet doors that I have - trash pullout, sink cab, lazy susan door, and that seems right to me, so I can't figure why it doesn't quite look right on the uppers. I have one drawer stack that's 34" wide; the top will be 2 17"-wide drawers, so I'm putting two pulls each on the deep drawers. I'm torn between putting one or two pulls on the sink tip-out (30" cabinet)....See Morehow do you decide...knobs or pulls?
Comments (26)It is such a visceral choice. You really need to think about the Users of your kitchen. And, you really need to think about how you weigh in on the "form v. function" concept. There are a lot of old posts I could direct you to. But, I won't. Close your eyes, imagine your plan, open your drawer. Is it a pull or a knob? Is it two or one on a 30 inch wide drawer? Reach to your uppers. Again, what was in your hand, pull or knob. Go with your gut. Draw what your gut wants then ---BALANCE. Your gut = function. Your iterative drawings, with all the variations, = form. Order lots extras for last minute changes. I love my choices. I have 2 different size pulls for my all drawer (except under the sink, the hutch, over the fridge, and one pullout) kitchen. Even, among these, they are all pulls, except for the small bottom doors of the hutch and the small top doors over the fridge. For me it was a "small door" decision factor. Right or Wrong, it works, because it is consistent. And, consistency is KEY....See MoreHow many types of cabinet hardware do you have?
Comments (20)I used one type of pull in 4 different sizes. All my doors (except a short cabinet above the refrigerator) have 10 inch pulls. I used different lengths on my drawers depending on their width. I tried to keep the drawer pulls about half the width of the drawer. My drawer pulls are 6-3/8" 10", 13-1/4" and 19-3/4". Comments (3)Thanks-I think that's what I'll do-add the holes. I read it's a good idea to put masking tape over all the holes and then poke out the ones you're using. The template I have has a ton of holes. Just not the holes I need. Go figure. I really don't want to use just a tape measure, pencil, masking tape and awl. I have over 40 doors and drawers to install knobs/pulls on and I want to streamline it at least a little bit....See Moredietitian
