Comments (9)Ime5573 you have found a Chlorophytum comosum 'Variegatum' which is the one with the green stripe in the centre. The commoner one is C comosum âÂÂVittatum'' with the cream stripe in the centre. I was also excited when I first saw one of these in a Bed and Breakfast I was staying at. I got a baby from them and now have a big specimen with babies of its own. They are easy to grow. Just as easy as the usual version. Here it is on my kitchen windowsill when it was younger. Don't know who stuck the pencil in there! BTW, personally I'd root it straight into in potting medium, not bothering with the water step, but that will work too. Are there already root nodules or roots showing? If not it will be harder to root....See MoreFire-flash (Chlorophytum orchidantheroides) Pic
Comments (9)Thank you Paul for the link!!! Mr Subjunctive, Lot's of good easy to read informative information on individual plants, just the way I like it! Hands on experience is always the best information! I don't know how, but I MUST have missed it flowering before this if it's growing seed pods now. General info-I water the plant when the soil is dry and it receives light from a west window. In the beginning. I watered it when it was still a little damp, other times, when it was dry. Nothing! So I'm sticking to watering when dry, and, just in case it gets a bad case of Aquaphobia. It doesn't droop at all, so it can take it. So far, it seems content. Hey Toni, I just noticed the flowers today as I was watering, so it will probably grow a little taller like yours did. This plant looked pitiful when it was brought home, little holes, brown spots, ripes and tears. I tried to pick the best one at "Lowe's" This was last year, but there was no best one, they all looked bad. I had to take so many leaves off to look good, it looked bald, but better. It did have a lot of seed pods, so many I literally sounded like a Moroccan band as I walked with it to the register! Billy Rae...See MoreChlorophytum comosum âReverse Variegatumâ
Comments (4)They had a gift wrap type paper on this one, so I took that off and when I did boy did it need repotting, the roots were coming out the bottom. I found a nice size pot and repotted it. My son (5 yrs old) wanted us to name it, so it's now named "Charlie"...See Moredert17
