My wife's company does this and it is great for young, healthy people. The HSA covers a few grand in medical expenses per year. We have never gone over that except for the birth of our daughter. If $10k or $8k or whatever would bankrupt you, then yes, you'll need to look at some sort of gap insurance. Of course, it is always, always better to not buy extra insurance if you don't have to. The way to avoid those ongoing costs is to build up an emergency fund. If you had $10k sitting in a bank account, you wouldn't have to worry about that insurance. You could take whatever extra you otherwise be paying for insurance and start building up some wealth. Just that $64/month would add up to about $78,000 30 years from now at a 7% return.

I'm back. Thx for the responses. I'm going to do it, I think. The "fear" is I feel sorta like I'd be "putting all my eggs in one basket". But then, if someone wanted to find all my (very few) assets - well, reality is it wouldn't take much. I just was seeking anyone who has any Negative experiences with doing such. I do have online banking set up for these. I've just not "linked" them. (However, I have not gone 'paperless'. I like to have the papers all over my non-existant desk. lol) Yes, I was adverse to the ATM machines also. Took me a few years to trust those machines. But look what happened 'down the road'...not 'really' that safe once the thieves decided they could steal info sitting in that car across the street. Another thing about the ATM's, It's spooky out there at night, and many years ago I deposited TWO checks into ONE deposit epp, and the good ol' BofA LOST one of the checks and made ME jump thru hoops before they corrected it. But, that is another story.

A 24" island can be functional: it's the same depth as the perimeter counters. I would rather have 39" aisles (I actually prefer 45"ish.) A couple things I don't care for are the DW between the range and sink, and the kind of irregular boundary formed by the different areas of cabinetry ending at different points on the floorplan, which will be even more irregular if the island doesn't line up with the edge of the perimeter cabinets. What type of refrigerator are you going to have? If you have cabinet depth even this is going to be a tight squeeze to the right of that island and a full depth will be a very tight squeeze, because it's drawn at 26" or so including moulding and a full depth is closer to 33" with handle. French door fridges aren't my favorite but in any case this would be the indication for one. Only a True Cabinet Depth fridge is as shallow as drawn ($5000-9000).
