Interesting questions ..... As long as the pot your plant is in isn't sitting in water at the bottom of the cache pot, you're fine. If the pot fits the cache pot fairly tightly around the rim, I'm thinking that CO2 might build up in the cache pot, but methane & sulfurous gasses would diffuse because they're lighter than air (CO2 isn't). If the CO2 diffuses too, it's a nonissue. I'm putting myself in your place and thinking about what I'd do, which is, let my plants tell me if they need some additional air circulation between the pots. Certainly, a little moisture in the pot is nothing to worry about, unless you know it to be wicking back up into the soil. On a scale of 1-10 with 10 being most likely to be limiting, I'd put your concern about the residual moisture at a 1 and the potential for CO2 to be an issue at about a 3. Still, attention to details are what brings you closer to perfect plants. At any given time it's often the effects you aren't even considering that are most limiting, so it's always refreshing to see someone considering the details. I like to point out that all our plants have the potential to be beautiful specimens, and the measure of how close they come is the measure of our ability to reduce or eliminate limiting factors to the greatest degree possible. IOW, how good we are at getting out of the plant's way! ;-) Al

carrie, You clearly have never worked in an environment like tarjey (lucky you!). Just try telling the incompetent above you in the "chain of command"--that is how these people talk--a plant might be mislabelled. A few years ago Wally world had some mostly mislabelled David Austin roses for sale. I tried to tell the clerk, and heard a long tale about how she had no control over what plants were ordered etc. etc., which I believe translates into "It is as much as my job is worth to criticize the Powers That Be." Partial shade for some roses might not be a bad idea in some So Cal. locations. I have found that I have to be very careful about which plants can take a western exposure. The effects of bright, afternoon sun are compounded by hot, drying wind in some places.

Guessing,,, You have dnsCache disabled in 'services' perhaps. Or maybe admin acct rights are required to display it. In Vista, probably same in XP, its friendly service name is DNS Client. Set to auto should be its default. Many people do disable it - forget why one might want to do that though. If you're familiar with Services, right click myComputer, manage, then turn it on ?? I made a temp desktop shortcut I've been using to peek at it in a text file. Should work xp too; cmd /c ipconfig /displaydns > %USERPROFILE%\Desktop\dnsnow.txt

"Just don't ever use the registry part unless you really know what you are doing." Stargazzer...Don't be afraid of the Registry Integrity option of CC. I've had this tool [CC] on my system for years and I've always checked off items under the Registry. Currently...the only items NOT checked off are "Fonts, Help Files and Run at Startup"...and that's purely personal choice because I have no need to worry about the first 2 and my paid version of AVG runs at start up...so I don't really need CC at that entry point. As a general suggestion to one and all...make sure to check for updates with this tool on a regular basis. Even though I have opted for automatic updates...I find that it rarely does so. I'm currently using the latest v.2.22.968 for Windows XP Pro SP3...and the new appearance is terrific. The first time I saw it...I was suspect because CC has always been rather non-decorative in nature. Now it's become one of the "Big Boys". ;-) It's really a fantastic, friendly/non invasive/non aggressive tool that plays well with MS and with my paid version of AVG. Anne
