Tibbrix- The picture you just posted is really nice. Reminds me of the area in NC where I was raised. I am considering getting two of the prints to go on either side of my china hutch. What do you think about them going there as opposed to the mirrored sconces? I like the sconces but wonder if they look more colonial looking?

I can remember your LR, but to really envision the prints v. sconces, pics would help.

There's a really cool barn from the 1880s down the road a piece from us. I love the tiny windows and peeling paint. I could talk DH into taking a B&W for you if you're interested.

Tibbrix- you helped me photoshop colors for my red dining room under "paging Tibbrix" if you would be willing to look it up. I have the same sconces as your parents you told me.

Wow! I have a (sort of) hobby of taking photos of old barns. Many times I have thought of converting them into B&W prints and having them framed. You've once again inspired me to go back thru my photos and do just that.

Yes, I think prints would do better there. But those sconces are so great that you have to find a home for them somewhere.

I personally don't care for sconces on large walls. I think they work better on each side of a window or door frame or something that really limits the wall area, like a bathroom vanity mirror….that sort of thing.

outsideplaying- you should return to doing the pictures. I have a thing for old barns and churches.

So do I. Three colors. They used to put a large plain wreath on it for Christmas. I think we have a photo of that.

You know how sometimes with art you cannot tell which side is meant to be the top? I was checking out Tibbrix's link for the barn photos when the final entry on the page (White Black Speckled Flower) caught my eye. The stem has obviously been faked, because the cymbidium orchid flower in that fine art print is upside-down. :) oopsie!

Oh, what a lovely thread. May, beautiful barn. We have an historic barn on this property, built in 1930 from cypress reclaimed from a dismantled train depot. It is red with white trim, though. We also have an historic outhouse. In the twenty years we have lived here, I have never been inside. Annie's posh outhouse redo makes me feel like a real slacker.

So many thanks to all of you who have responded to this post! How I would love to do an entire wall in barn prints. There are so many that I'll never be able to select just a couple.

Tibbrix- you have a beautiful home from what I can see of it and the snow is beautiful. We have always wanted to do some stone walls at our place. Just love stone. You are very fortunate!

Thank you, sis! I got very lucky when I found this place. It's a lot of work, which is good, mostly spring, summer, and fall, of course. And oh, wish I could put it on wheels and move it to a nicer and more friendly town…but, can't have everything, I guess!

What do you think of that photo of the barn window opening outward? I wonder how that would look on a wall, like an illusion of looking out the wall at a field? Might be interesting!

I love that barn window photo! And honestly there are so many, I am really considering doing a whole wall in some. I have a long blank wall upstairs that is currently being painted that I'm really wondering about. I was only planning on doing a couple of pictures in the dining room. My newest dilemma is that my DH really loves the sconces where they are and thinks I should consider doing a picture or a couple of pictures between the two windows across from the hutch with my ironstone instead of either side of hutch.

Are the sconces candles or electric?

They are candles.

So why not try them in different places and the pics on that wall? No rewiring, so…

I could be wrong and making a terrible blanket statement her, but my experience is that men, as a group, don't like change, but when it happens w/o their noticing, they're fine with it. But the idea of it bothers them.

I am not saying that to start an uproar. It is a very blanket and general statement based on an overall observation.

But so true! He really doesn't say much about what I want to do with regard to decorating. He just said" oh I kind of like those there". Of course he could be remembering the anchor screws behind them. They are very heavy- you wouldn't believe it!
