Comments (6)Using steel for the frame is a long lasting idea. There are still plenty of Contractors willing to weld up a frame for Ya These guys>>www.kingmetals.comKeep in mind all steel needs to be painted on a regular not just occasional. Of course a define of failure has to be set,any little break in the finish will let the rust start and bang bang the cancer has a start. I defently do not recomend tendura its bad Customer track record includes a lot of failure causing complete reform in the product. A quick read of the instulation instrustions is the first red flag. As always with a flakey composite these guys blame the instaler, funny how its always the installer with composite never the product. John...See Morecupping on new T&G covered porch floor?
Comments (6)Cupping depends solely on moisture content. If the wood was surfaced in a dryer (or wetter) state than it will be used in it is going to change shape when it acclimates to the new moisture conditins. Period. There is no way around it. It will also continue to change shape throughout the year as the humidity changes. Wood moves. Wood with larger changes moves more. Poplar is not a good wood for exterior use. It has a very low decay resistance. Cypress is better, or one of the tropicals like IPE with a lot of oil in the wood (there are even better woods but they are hard to find, expensive, and restricted - think Rosewood). Chapter 3 of the Wood Engineering Handbook covers moisture and how wood changes. Here is a link that might be useful: Wood Engineering Handbook...See Morelightweight flooring options for covered porches in Minnesota weather

Another manufacturer, RUBBER FLOORING INC , also sells rubber/foam tiles via their online site. Some of these may be more durable than others....See MoreBest materials for exposed wood porch
Comments (7)The best material in terms of maintenance and longevity with a natural wood look is ipe. It's been proven to last 75+ years, and the only maintenance you need to consider is oiling it once a year or so to preserve the color - unless you don't mind it turning gray, in which case you don't have to do anything. However, if you don't like cedar being 3x the cost of pine, ipe is even more expensive, so consider your budget. You might also consider other exotic woods like cumaru, tigerwood, and massaranduba. These all have similar maintenance and longevity properties as ipe, but come at a lower cost. Cumaru: Tigerwood: Massaranduba:...See Moredancingsams
