They should be pretty much the same since you are looking at two similarly sized sets with the same 1080 resolution. BUT... The screens are all pretty much made in the same small number of factories in Asia. What differs between sets - other than the size of the screen - is the circuitry inside the set that puts the picture on the screen. To some extent (setting aside discount sales, etc.), you get what you pay for. Not knowing anything else about these sets, I might be inclined to think the more expensive one has a more robust power supply, more input/output choices, better quality driver boards and chips, better speakers, etc.

I believe that those irrigation companies estimate the maximum wire length between station and solenoid according to estimated resistance of the wire, and the estimated inductance of the wire. These will depend on the particular sort of wire/cable being used. One way to possibly figure out a maximum length is to take whatever system you have at the moment, and use an AC voltage measuring device (eg, multimeter) to measure the voltage at the solenoid when the controller is supplying AC voltage to it. The controller output will be about 24 V AC (RMS). But the voltage across the solenoid is expected to be smaller, due to resistance and reactance of the long cable. If you know roughly the length of the existing cable, then you can take the difference (call it "DIFF") between 24Volt AC (RMS) and the measured RMS voltage across the solenoid. This will be the estimated voltage drop for that length of cable you currently have. Then, the voltage drop per unit length will be equal to DIFF/existing_cable_length, ie. DIFF divided by existing cable length. Call the result of this something like dpu (drop per unit length). So, this should let you calculate (estimate) the voltage drop for a particular length wire/cable. As long as the drop is not more than say '4 Volt', then it should be ok. This means, the AC RMS voltage across the solenoid terminals themselves, should be at least 20V AC. The voltage drop calculation will be dpu times length_of_new_cable.

The short answer is it can be done but it may be a bit complicated. Just connecting the TV and PC via a network cable doesn't make a network. You'll have to create an "ad hoc" network to get the computer to talk to the TV (and visa versa). Reading the manual, it appears your TV can do that. Once you get the TV and PC connected, you'll need some way to stream your content. LG offers a free copy of Nero Media Home to do that. I don't know if you will be able to "share" you 3G dongle so that the TV can access the Internet. As an aside here, I don't know how much data you get with your 3G plan but streaming videos tends to use a lot of data. So you'll want to review your limits.

Apologies, folks, for trying to be "cute" and fitting my title to suit this forum. My original wish was only to cover the fact that today's tv channels do not fit their previous mandates, not to actually dress up the tv set. I forgot to list HGTV, which, a very long time ago, actually had some excellent gardening shows, full of information and ideas for real gardeners. And interesting home how-to type shows, not the present plethora of $$$million showcases. I do miss those days... But in relation to the tv sets of today, so slim and often huge "black holes" (thank you, bpath!): When we were married, 57 years ago this year, my in-laws gave us enough money to buy our first color tv. We found a fabulous huge wood cabinet one almost the size of our couch (!) and had it for many years. One of the best things about it was a "secret-from-our-young-kids" switch on the backside to turn it completely off, separate from the front off switch. It was several years before the boys figured out how we were controlling what they watched! And the top was about 2x5 feet, so it was another surface to put stuff on, like books or a lamp or... Good times! Our previous modern tv set had a wide enough top that I could decorate it for the holidays with greenery and other stuff. The present one is only about 3 inches wide, so not possible to get fancy for the hols. Bummer... Ah, well. Thanks for participating, all!
