thanks Len. My Dad started Amalgamated Pest Control before I was born (sold out when I was 2 ROFL! - no great inheritance there!) so I can honestly say that the only time till I was 20 that I ever saw a mouse, rat, cockroach or ant inside a house was when we went to visit my maternal grandmother in the country! So I consider myself very brave to cope with the mice, cockroaches etc (I refuse to get my house sprayed - the chemicals my father used for those few years have left a terrible legacy on him, and my siblings and I). Our chicks are not quite 4 weeks old yet. I'm assuming it will be a few months before they are big enough to tackle a mouse - even a sick one. So for the time being I'll keep baiting. One of the chicken books I borrowed from the library had a really good idea for a bait station - pvc pipe with a "T" junction - at least 60cm long along the ground, with the "T" bit in the middle (upside down T), with another length of pipe 1m or so long. The tall length of pipe has wire attached to hold it up against the fence, and a cap on top to stop the rain. To add bait, just take of the cap and drop it down. Living in the middle of a building site has its advantages - finding pvc pipe was not a problem, I just needed to buy the T connection and a cap. So I'm quite happy to have these out in my garden - mice, rats, and probably the odd baby cane toad or imported Indonesian gecko are the only things that can get into it. how is your wife? hope everything is well with your family, and you're enjoying the school hols with the grandkids.

The short answer is it can be done but it may be a bit complicated. Just connecting the TV and PC via a network cable doesn't make a network. You'll have to create an "ad hoc" network to get the computer to talk to the TV (and visa versa). Reading the manual, it appears your TV can do that. Once you get the TV and PC connected, you'll need some way to stream your content. LG offers a free copy of Nero Media Home to do that. I don't know if you will be able to "share" you 3G dongle so that the TV can access the Internet. As an aside here, I don't know how much data you get with your 3G plan but streaming videos tends to use a lot of data. So you'll want to review your limits.

"I then opened the receptacle and put my multimeter probes on leg A and neutral, it read 118V and when I pressed the start button the it dropped to 0V and leg B was at 240V." Leg B was at 240V relative to what? What type of receptacle are you using? "Three prong" covers a lot of receptacle/plug types. Perhaps comparison to the chart at http://www.stayonline.com/reference-nema-straight-blade.aspx will help identify it. Ideally, dryers are wired to four-wire systems, two hot conductors, the neutral conductor, and the grounding conductor. The neutrals are grounded only at the breaker box. Older dryers used three conductor systems, two hot and one neutral conductors. The chassis should be separately grounded in such cases. I can imagine, however, a design intended to operate purely from 240 Vac and having two hot conductors and a grounding conductor. Does the non-hot lead of the cable to the dryer have a low or high resistance to the dryer chassis? Another possible consideration is that military electrical wiring, particularly in field conditions (even as mature as those at Kuwait, for example) are notorious for being poorly wired, even sometimes leading to electrocutions. Is it possible that your dryer wiring was modified in the field to conform with whatever power source configuration was present? kas The Electrical Wiring forum may be better tailored to your question than the Laundry forum.

mtvhike, maybe I've misunderstood you, but "the internet" as you refer to it is everything that carries or process a signal in-between the device (PC, tablet, smartphone and home automation devices whether wired or Wifi) and the ISP's switching office. Including the wire and wire connections, by the way. That includes your LAN. and each part of it. Spectrum's Tech Support department can access your modem remotely and get info about the signal it receives and signal drop outs. A technician with clips at the junction box of your house can do the same thing. These assessments leave out a few parts of the path but if your problems continue, a tech visit or a Tech Support call would be the next step.
