cabinets to 9 ft ceiling? and faux butlers pantry idea?
Comments (4)Your image is a bit hard to understand. Does the fridge open up into a bottleneck/walkway? I agree with above... You might as well bring cabinets to the ceiling if it's your only way to maximize storage space in that area and you can afford it. We have 9' ceilings and cabinets all the way up... In my top cabinets, I keep: rarely used glasses, holiday themed kitchen items, serving platters for parties, extra paper cups and similar. Will you have a pantry area or not? Where will food go? It might be useful for you to sketch out where you will keep things...... That will give you an idea of how much additional space you need. The hutch/butlers pantry in adjoining area sounds nice... to increase storage, show off your china and it will likely look nice. There are lots of kitchens on here with similar if you search....See Moreshaker cabinetry to 9 foot ceiling with crown molding or a space
Comments (12)When the cabinets are mounted with the top above the window height, you needn't worry about the projection of the crown interfering with the window molding. If they are lower, then yes, you need to account for the projection of the crown in the design. Crowding window molding is not a great look, either way. I try to go no closer than 3" to a molding, and some kitchens demand more negative space than that. What you run into with very tall cabinets is that it renders the kitchen off visually. I prefer transom cabinets that can break up that long vertical line visually. This is what 9' ceilings with 48"H transom cabinets (30+18 combo) looks like with a 6" cove molding. The cove really needs a riser to account for an out of level ceiling and to make up the tiny bit of difference between the molding height and overall height....See MoreKitchen cabinet height for 9 ft ceiling
Comments (4)Unfortunately faux wood beams often look faux and an affectation. It depends on how well they’re done which usually means costly for them to look good. I would not jump through hoops for them in my kitchen design. Also make sure the beams don’t interfere with your lighting....See MoreCrown Molding size for 9 ft ceilings
Comments (2)Probably the biggest I'd go just based on the trim around the door I see there. Unless you are going to re-do all your trim and baseboard as well, I've always felt that crown needs to be within a certain size range in relationship to your other trim. When I see some of these modern McMansions that have like 6-7" massive built-up crown next to 3" casing it is kind of ridiculous....See Morebroston2
