Pantry- Pull Out Vs. Door with Attached Storage
Comments (27)I weighed the same options over and over. I have rollout drawers like in the 3rd photo. However, I do not have a full height pantry to the floor. My freezer drawer is at the bottom and the the rollouts and shelves above. I get the issues about things getting lost in the middle of pullouts, like the 1st 2 pics. However the same thing can happen with rollout shelves, especially those that are at the higher up. A pro of the pullouts are that it is one motion like discussed. Pullout and everything comes out. If they are not that wide, I can't see most things getting lost. Biggest issue is cans and that is the same issue even with rollouts. Although I did a shallow rollout where the shelf above is a little higher then a 28oz can on its side. I have the cans on there sides so you can read the labels when you pull it out If you are the one putting groceries away, you tend to know where everything is located. That is the plus. When my wife asks where the x is located, I instinctively know and tell her exactly where it is located. Now my cabinet is 31" wide and I have double doors like the 3rd pic. In retrospect, its kind of a pain. Have to open both doors to get something out. Same issue people complain about with french door fridges. Also, the wide rollouts aren't efficient either. Maybe its more my senario since I only have 3 of them but I have a shelf where there are tall things like bags of chips and much shorter items. In retrospect, it would have been better to have a divider and narrower rollouts. This would have allowed me to use all of the space more efficiently. But then again I would loose all the space with the divider and the extra drawer/rollout material. Hmmm....See MoreWhich Rev-A-Shelf should I pick?
Comments (10)I didn't do any research on the brands as my cab maker bought what he has a good track record using for customers. Mine is the first you pictured. Has worked great for 2.5 years. For some reason, the top mounted ones looking so.....ummmm....hang-y to me. Silly to say. It's like they aren't supported. I'm sure they are though. Maybe I'm just used to how securely my cans fit into the metal frame. No tipping or jostling cans, which it seems to me the top mounted ones might experience. Don't know without experience. Anyway, I like mine....See MoreComparing Rev-a-Shelf vs Hafele BCC pull-outs
Comments (6)Here's the link to Arlosmom's BC solution as well as some other really interesting ones. The last couple of posts have links to her photos : she's also very kindly provided dimensions of the drawers in the last post. BC solutions Here's a roughup of what I plan to do. The drawers on the right side, will be full length with the "face" towards you when you pull them out. 3 sides will be about 4 inches high while the "face" side will be very low - maybe even with no side to facilitate easy pulling out of items. The cabinet can be wheeled out to access items which are in long term storage. It will have a door which has a toe kick piece to conceal the wheels. Check out this link for the hardware for the toe kick attachment. http://www.ezkick.net/ This post was edited by gemcap on Sun, Aug 10, 14 at 23:28...See MoreWhere to get a better price on Rev-a-shelf, anyone used Ovis?
Comments (10)Thank you very much for the feedback! Sorry it took so long to reply. I wrote a message yesterday and tried to send it. The message went somewhere??? and then my computer froze and wouldn't let me do anything. I just checked out AHTurf and the items I am most interested in are cheaper. Has anyone bought larger, heavy items like lazy susans or had to return anything to either Ovis or AHTurf? Thanks again for the feedback and the new source....See Moreamberm145_gw
