Has anyone used qualitybath.com?
Comments (120)First of all, high praise to Chaya for solving the problem with my order. She was very competent and a pleasure to work with. I ordered a freestanding tub, but realized after I placed my order that Massachusetts plumbing code does not approve the bathtub brand (Perlato). I wished I had been aware that some plumbing codes will not approve particular tubs! There was no mention that this could be an issue on the website. I suggest a disclaimer should be clearly posted warning customers to check their own state's codes. Now I am out $550 to pay for the shipping return. So, what I thought I was saving is now lost and then some. I'd like to reorder a code-friendly tub from them, but feel too scared due to the return policy. The best thing I need to say is that Chaya handled my situation well. If she owned the company I would definitely reorder as she has a sense of fairness and efficiency that is rare....See MoreHas anyone used chicken wire for their cabinets???
Comments (13)5 years and my chicken wire looks the same as it did when I posted the photos on the linked thread - above. I'm the one that went over it with stain. Hard to see in photos (linked below) but it's on both doors (pine hutch) and the two lift up doors (black hutch). Those are shown upclose on linked thread - above - and new pictures are on the post linked below. fwiw, I bought a pre-made (but put together yourself) computer cart (on wheels) years ago. I had DH make a flip down door (for keyboard) and doors. Painted it all black. Put in gathered fabric behind chicken wire on the doors. Geez, it's 8-10 years old. Used to sit at it on computer (for at least 6 years) and the wire is still okay - not warped or bent. Here is a link that might be useful: my kitchen...See MoreWeek 27. Comments (43)Remind your Bad Selves about that when you feel like it'll never end -- and it's been a couple of years. [snort] You signed up for it! Run with it and make it beautiful. My Bad Self should have said, "we have the slowest reno planning in the history of mankind." The only kitchen action has been removing wallpaper, replacing a few appliances, and the ceiling fan, after it helicoptered itself out of the ceiling. Happily, it dented the breakfast table, and not my head, nearby. But I digress. WeâÂÂve been talking about the kitchen for nine years. It keeps getting bumped by needed repairs (new windows, HVAC, electrical service, crumbly adobe exterior); by my decision to build a greenhouse (yay!) and by our enjoyment of working on our big desert yard. IâÂÂm a caregiver for my Mom, who lives nearby, so we maintain both houses. MomâÂÂs medical issues land her in the hospital regularly. After I live with her for a while, or get her through weeks in a rehab hospital, I just donâÂÂt have the heart to start changing walls. I lose the wind in my sails. About six years ago, we hired a designer to help us figure out the kitchen dilemma. Met him at a home show; OMG, I was so excited! Paid a deposit of half, after the initial consult, and then he disappeared. We called, and he showed up a few days later with drawings I could have done in about three hours. No ideas, no help. (I know this sounds unlikely, but trust me.) I didnâÂÂt know what to do. I was ashamed of myself for not researching him more thoroughly. About five days later, he started dunning us by mail to pay the second half. We did; I just it over. Poof went a four-figure fee (a chunk of change, for us) and the wind in my sails. Rats! Soon after, the golf course adjoining our neighborhood went bankrupt, dropping home values. (Oh, good.) Major investments in the house seemed less wise. However, things are looking up, finally, with a new medical park, on the derelict land. (Hooray.) Battling on, in February, I did a thread about our kitchen, and everyone here came to the rescue, with tons of wonderful real help, ideas, and thoughtful discussion. Then I had to help Mom through another medical hurdle... IâÂÂm back again, thanks to the encouragement I find here. And eventually, I still think we can make it beautiful! We may crawl, instead of run, but thatâÂÂs truly OK; progress is progress. And that, CEFreeman, is the genius behind this thread you started, to celebrate small accomplishments. Thank you! (And, very kind of you to maintain the peeky-holes for the raccoons.)...See MoreHas anyone regretted building their “internet” or tract ‘model’ home?
Comments (71)Mrs Pete..I agree..now OT, sorry, but I was reading your post all starry-eyed, and I have deep personal interest..)) do you bake gluten-free too? I can bake gluten-free. It is more difficult in that the finished product tends to "spread" and don't like to stand up straight, and they require more internal support ... which is something you want in a wedding cake. If you need to serve gluten-free people, these are my suggestions: - Go with a single layer of gluten-free cake ... most people don't care about gluten, so this allows your baker to do what's easiest for the majority of the cake. - Make that layer one of the small layers. - Consider carrot cake as your gluten-free layer. Most people like it, and it's an easy choice for gluten-free. - A whole different thought: Opt for cheesecake, which isn't always gluten-free, but absolutely can be made without that bitty-bit of cornstarch or flour. Yes, a cheesecake can be stacked. If I were doing this for a wedding, I'd offer a variety of self-serve toppings: Strawberry, cherry, blueberry, chocolate, nuts, maybe coconut. I did not even have cake at my wedding - no, not even Costco, so I am likely not your target person to talk cake with, but I am most definitely craving cake now (lemon please, with lemon filling...maybe alternated with raspberry....). And that's the point. A whole lot of people just want a house ... they'd see a difference in 3 bedrooms vs. 4, but their eyes might glaze over if you started talking about optimizing the kitchen or the merits of different types of windows. Aren't they just ... windows? As for lemon, I am making a small wedding cake tomorrow for the royal wedding. My daughter (but not her English husband) is absolutely insane over the royal wedding. Since it's just for us to play with, I am experimenting with a "naked cake" ... it will be lemon (my lemon cake is INCREDIBLE, if I do say so myself) with fruit (or maybe just blueberries? I haven't been shopping yet.) and lemon cream-cheese frosting between the layers. I am driving this cake over to the hospital where my daughter works because she and her fellow nurses are coming in to work early to watch the royal wedding, and I'm going to watch with them. How'd she convince them to come in before 6:00 am? She promised them my cake, and she reminded them of the cake I brought them recently ... it was two layers of carrot cake sandwiching a layer of cheesecake. It was better than what I made for my co-workers on St. Patrick's Day: I experimented with a Green Velvet cake (like red velvet, but containing an entire bottle of green food coloring) sandwiching a cheesecake ... the next day every one of us was confused: we felt fine, but we were all pooping green. When we all realized the source of our malady, we laughed 'til we cried. If you like lemon and raspberry, try Key Lime Cake with Raspberry Filling. I made a simple three-layer cake (with raspberries on top instead of flowers and whipped fluff icing) for a casual wedding that featured BBQ ... it complimented the food very nicely. I thought it was "you CAN'T have your cake, and eat it too." We always seem to have cake at my house. We eat it, and we still seem to have more. Current house is someone else's fully custom house. I've always wondered why realtors advertise that a house is "custom". That means it was built to someone else's taste. Doesn't seem to be a selling point to me....See Moretexasgal47
