Definitely is a Scaevola but there are many species. Might need a closer photo to get a positive ID. Is it a native where you are, or an 'import' from elsewhere in the country?

It's hard to say if this plant is local to me because I live right on the divide between the wetter & drier parts of the southern Mt Lofty Ranges. As well, most of the original vegetation, especially the understorey, of my area was destroyed many years ago.

According to Plant Distribution Mapper there are two Scaevola species recorded about 15 km from my place: S. aemula & S. albida. Because of the leaf shape I think this one might be S. aemula but the flower color in the image is a much paler blue than I would have expected in S. aemula. Perhaps there is a wider range of blue in S. ameula than I expected.

You could be right about there being a range of shades of blue in that species. Another thing is that I find blue (particularly light blue) tends to wash out in photos. The image in the book may not be 100% true to colour. Try googling, there's quite a bit of information about them.

We have over a dozen Scaevola species locally. A few years ago I was trying to sort some of them out but had quite a bit of difficulty.

I've been to Dr Google without much success, alas. I recall now that a few years ago I came across a couple of Scaevola sp. beneath some Black Peppermint Box Eucalyptus odorata on a roadside about 1 km from my place. It was part of the last remnant understorey in my area. I may have to wait until spring 2015, take another look & hope that the council grader hasn't destroyed them.

Have you tried checking with your herbarium? I've found ours quite helpful.

I'm now growing Scaev. Stricta, a fuller and more attractive flower, I reckon, to S. aemula, which I have bought from plant distributers and have growing here and there. Yours, in my opinion, is S. Aemula. Mind you, they tend to flower more in mid spring than summer, at least in the almost sub-tropics.

Thanks, funnelweb. I'm leaning towards Scaevola aemula, too. I'm growing this species (hopefully) because it's local or near local to where I live & this accords with my project to restore as far as possible the original plant community here on the s.e. slopes of the Mt Lofty Ranges, SA, before it was cleared for stock grazing.
By the way, did you mean Scaevola striata, a native of s.w. WA? It certainly has an attractive flower.
