Would love some input on furniture layout for my living room

Hi there! I discovered this site a few weeks ago and am so impressed by everyone's ideas!

I'm completely stuck on how to arrange my living room. I've done like 15 diffent arrangements on the room plan re tool at Pottery Barn but I'm still stuck!

We are planning on ordering a new couch soon but I can't make that commitment until I can figure out the best arrangement for this room.

The room is 19' x13' and the long wall faces the front of the house and has a 117" bank of windows centered. It has an entrance to the dining room and is off the entryway.

Here is a pic of a layout I've done..my problem is I can't decide where to put the tv..
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Are those bookshelves? no fireplace in the room?

Rather than a sectional, I'd get two sofas. One would have its back to the DR entry, facing the long bank of windows. The second would form and "L" with the other sofa and would be facing the bookshelves, back to the wall with the hallway entrance.

Square table in the elbow joint the two sofas make; large square coffee table; TV on a wall-mounted articulating arm on the wall where you have the bookshelves, in the corner by the windows. You can then pull the TV out and angle it when you want to watch it, push it back against the wall when you don't, and any glare from the windows won't hit the TV.

No there is no fireplace in this room...although I wish there was on the back wall..perfect spot for one!

Those are bookshelves and a tv stand I have in the drawing. Pieces of furniture we have that I was planning on keeping..at least the bookshelves anyway.

So I did another "room plan".. Is this what your thinking? I added a love seat in the drawing but I think another sofa would be fine as well.

Also, as far as the space under the stairs goes, those things can be huge (likely at least 6 feet deep). I might consider putting a door on that under the stairs space and putting the dog bed in the open area next to it with a dutch door. You could do your broom closet under the stairs and have ample room for vacuum cleaners, buckets, mops, cleaning supplies, extra rags and old towels (which I store in a laundry basket), etc. My parents have one and it is wonderful . . . they also store the cushions for the patio furniture in there off season, as well as a folding table and chairs. . . tons of room! They have a narrow shelf along one side for cleaning stuff (furniture polish, floor wax, floor cleaner, brass cleaner, upholstery cleaner - all the stuff you accumulate) with a broom and mop holder under it. The other side has the vacuum cleaner and the carpet cleaner with plenty of room to walk between. I have never thought a cabinet broom closet would be big enough for me, and your laundry is not too big as it is. . . . that would be taking up lots of space! Also, I have a great cordless Hoover Platinum vac which I use multiple times a day (for multiple kids and dog), so I would want a broom closet where I could have a plug for the charger for that (which I highly recommend!!!)

HI -- Nice room but you need some color ..I think .... think about putting the TV on an articulating bracket on the wall into the right corner ...possibly on the wall beside the patio door if the TV will not fit on the right side of the fireplace . Get some lined blackout curtain panels for the patio doors - on a black rod and hang them full height . You can have grommet tops or on rings . Put the sofa on that big empty wall so it faces the patio doos and the TV that's beside . Have matching cabinets / dressers on each side of the fireplace with 2 or 3 shelves above on the left of the fireplace to balance with the TV that is on the right side . Now have the chairs placed backing to the kitchen . This will open up the room and give you better viewing to the TV with no sun glare . With the TV being less of the main feature in the room. Now you can have a pretty round mirror or a painting over the mantel and a family photo wall or Art above the sofa . This will give the room better flow because the sofe was cutting the room in half . Also maybe fatten up those ceiling beams by wrapping them in wood and staining them a medium to dark color ... they could also have some strip LED up- lighting on top of them .

Ah, ok what is a better description of what I like (example photo below)? I tend to like modern lines on sofas and tables, and like to keep it kind of neutral with a few earthy accent colors. Eclectic didn't seem right either. Thanks for the input regarding sofas, that's my feeling too :)

That media console is awesome! I really like that style! thank you everyone for the input- I appreciate it! I changed up my living room since I have 3 kiddos under 5 years old so needed somewhere that wouldn’t “break!” Haha- and they literally jump on that ottoman like a trampoline - I found it on Facebook market for $60 (and found couches on there too) so I’ll prob keep for awhile for time being and eventually get a smaller scale one when the time is right:) and maybe different chair/ more of a comfy lounge one- I’ll send you all some ideas for input when that time comes!

Yes, that is the plan. Only move the square with the seating section over toward the all with the bank of windows and then inward toward the bookshelves. In other words, the seating section would be in the center of the room and not against any walls.

Put a console table behind the sofa that faces the bookshelves.
