100% burdock imo too.... based on experience, not Google. As a child we used to make hats out of the fully grown leaves. Fold it around into a cone, pin with twig and decorate with wild flowers. Very fetching. The dare was to wear them all the way home. I had a very cool 'auntie' who, despite her supposedly sensible age, would always wear hers all the way back.

Hi Denise, you don't need to be so concerned about the exact time to water, it's not such an exact science. You just want to see the top one inch or so very dry, not moist. If it's dry two inches down and soil underneath is obviously moist, it's fine, just water at that time. If you water when the top half inch is dry, I don't think the plant will mind a time or three. So no worries. The point is that you don't want to overwater. Crotons don't like to dry out completely, but watering every day would probably be too much. I can't explain that comment by Exotic Angel. They grow in small pots with a peaty mix, and maybe those do dry out quickly and need watering every day. Some people buy EA plants and set them on a windowsill rather than putting in a larger pot, EA's comment may have been aimed at those folks. On your beautiful pics of those bushy crotons, the only way you can maintain that look is to keep taking tip cuttings, or pinching the tips off once they get a little tall. Taking the growing tips off forces new growth and branching lower on the plant. Russ

Yes, I think that one has been on the list for a while now. I got a firsthand look at how invasive it can be at my house. I lost an entire bed of rudbeckia and echinacea because of it. The only good thing about it, is that it pulls up very easily. I read up a bit on it last year. Apparently it is best removed later in the summer. That way when new WEEDlings come up from the seed bank, they don't have time to produce seed and are winter killed. Another method is to continuously mow it down.

get this.. blooms after 4pm .. go figure on that common name.. lol .. also very fragrant... and if surrounding the patio or deck.. can pleasantly fragrance such in the evening ... an annual up north ... if the larger birds dont eat all the seeds in fall .. though i had seedlings where the plants were sited.. i never found the brids spreading them around ... in my MI .... perennial in warmer and native ranges .... ken
