Size of single pendant over island
Comments (0)I’d like to hang a pendant light over my island....I can only hang one light due to the type of ceiling and pot lights above. The island is approx 3’x5’, wondering what size pendant light (diameter) would look appropriate over the island??...See MoreHELP! Sizing on single Pendant/Chandelier over Kitchen Island
Comments (5)Wait for others, particularly pros, to chime in since you want a wide range of experience. I, however, wouldn't use that or any chandelier. I just think it's too small. A five-foot island over which you can only put a single light needs, I believe, to have something rectangular so it can spread out the light, so to speak. But that's me. I'll be interested in others' opinions....See MorePendant lighting over island
Comments (27)This is why I always have the electrician run the supply wires in the ceiling, with plenty of slack. We wait until after the drywall is done to cut the holes and use remodel boxes. People can’t visualize. Even when you draw them diagrams. Or, do an actual real completed DESIGN from the beginning, with all choices measured and specified, and SET. Instead of winging it without the ability to visualize. Design BEFORE you do any demolition or building anything. Then the boxes and lights go where they need to go with no angst....See MoreSize guidelines for island single pendant
Comments (14)@Kim I understand what you are asking. Many people suggest to actually get some cardboard (or balloons) to mimic the size of the pendants and see how it appears in the space. I know that roughly speaking if your island is 94 inches long, the middle of pendant should be over the midpoint of your island (47) and then going from there, would be about 23 inches from each edge of island. I am hoping an "expert" chimes in here, but that sounds reasonable. Maybe a tad smaller fixture? Although it seems 2 feet of open area on each end sounds ok to me. I would try with cadrboard of 40 inches for fixture... and if that seems skimpy you can go larger and if it seems overpowering then maybe 36 or so?...See MoreOaktown
