Please do not use HomeAway

I'm a frequent commenter here, mostly in the Home Decorating and Design Forum. I also rent my home to vacationers on VRBO.com, which is one of HomeAway's many Vacation Rental Web Sites.

HomeAway is downright abusive toward homeowners. We really care about those who rent our homes, and we want to have a good rapport with our guests, manage our own properties, make it as easy and pleasant for our guests as possible. HomeAway, and all of its sites, is destroying our ability to do that, under the guise of making things easier for travelers. It doesn't.

As an example, I've been a member of their "Community" for one week, where homeowners can discuss issues. In the first day, I was threatened with suspension twice by the moderator, who willfully misread my comments, twisted the meaning, and actually told me certain words are not to be used (like "authoritative"). She then went on vacation, and we could all converse w/o fear and express ourselves and our concerns.

Well, she's back, and on her first day back, she has banned me.

This is very typical of how HomeAway treats its paying customers, we homeowners. They twist our arms behind our backs to get us to bend to their will, which harms our businesses and our personal rapport with our guests.

Please use non-homeaway sites, like Booking.com, Airbnb, Flipkey (TripAdvisor) (I am NOT on those sites), and for Cape Cod, the wonderful weneedavacation.com.

I’ve used Home Away once and VRBO many, many times,always successfully, but know you, Tibbrix, from the Home Decorating forum and know you as a sincere, cooperative and honest person, so have no doubt as to the accuracy of your message. It disturbs me greatly that homeowners aren’t able to voice their concerns openly to discuss business issues. I do believe a company like this needs to keep not only it’s renters happy, but also the source of their product, which is the homeowner. I’ve heard negative feedback somewhere else about Home Away, in relation to it’s rapport with homeowners, so your advice is noted and I do plan to look into other rental sources. I was not even aware of Flipkey, yet have done well with TripAdvisor for many years, and just booked my latest vacation rental through Booking.com. Thanks for the head’s up!

These look so good in front of red roses. I have this rose called "Intrigue." It has a purple tint to the blooms that is difficult to describe. This Yucca stands out with it. The colors just go together so well. I have also seen them with red knockout roses and they look good too. It also looks good with my Nepeta "Walker's Low," Penstemon "Dark Towers," and Mexican Hat Plant and various Echinaceas and ornamental grasses. I have found that they do well even when other plants are up against them. I have to prune my Nepeta away from it on occasion. I think this Yucca is one of the best garden plants ever. The color is so much better than most other plants. For example...The amsonia hubrichtii was the perennial plant of the year; however, it is so ugly compared to my Yucca 'Color Guard.' It did turn a dirty yellow in the fall, but it's floppy and the color didn't last long at all. This Yucca stays nice all year. It has pink tints in it right now because of the cooler temps.

Dave....No kidding ha..lol How you been anyways... Have you posted some pics of your plumies this year? I would love to see them. I have been too tired to read posts lately anymore, and if I missed any, please send me in that direction will ya? Did you get many blooms? I am finally getting one, just as the nights are getting cool..Dang it. I hope I can get a least a couple of blooms to open.. I think next year I am going to try a new strategy..I am going to wake my plumies up earlier, and stick them in sun before spring...let's see how that works.. Hope you are doing well.... Mike

Using a router cannot print what am I doing wrong? PLEASE help!

Well. if you can print from the desktop, at least you can transfer files to it with your thunb drive (as opposed to going to the library). When you try to print, use the drop-down menu in the print dialog box, and see if you have the printer listed. If so, select it from the list. If you select it, and the printer status is "idle", you should be ready to go. (This is assuming that you already have the proper driver installed on the laptop.) We just went through the same aggravation with our HP J6480. In our setup, we have a home network. The printer is connected to the router (not the adjacent desktop). Basically, if you go to Start / My Network Places (In WinXP), you can create a Workgroup. Then you do the same on the other computers, using the same name, and opting for "file and printer sharing". If the printer is connected to the desktop directly, make sure the computer is on, and that file and print sharing is turned on. Then go to Control Panel / Printers, and look for that printer. Right click on it, then "set as default". Then see if you can print. Last, but not least, try unplugging the printer and waiting a minute. Plug back in, turn it on, and you might be able to print. Yeah I think there are some serious misunderstandings on your part about what pesto is. N o you don't use buds or stems. I can't see why you'd want to even try making pesto since you want to leave out two of the primary ingredients - all the cheese and not use olive oil. That isn't pesto. If you want pesto then make pesto. If you don't want any cheese or oils then make something else. Dave PS: Comparing the oil in some 3-4 year old outdated jar is no valid reason for not using olive oil in making a fresh batch.
