I have not mowed lawn since september,will gas still be ok?

I just brought a leaf blower. I will clear up the leaves this weekend and then mow the lawn one last time before next spring. The last time i used the mower was back in september, ( my grass has not grown much since then).
I brought the mower new in back in april.
Will the gas being left in there since september pose any problems when i go to use it on saturday?

Its a push mower.

It should be fine. Just prime it 3 times and it should start no problem.

Gasoline stored in a cool place will be fine after 6 months. Storage in a hot place will age the gasoline much faster. This is my experience.

My lawn takes about 45 minutes to mow by hand. The robos take at least 20 minutes of "futzing" around to get them rolling! That doesn't include trimming and of course working around rainy days! No futzing here, fortunately. Place on lawn, press large green button, walk away. Come back later and collect. How long does it take to get your lawn mowed morph? I have three zones, the front and south face, the back, and the north face (extending somewhat into the back). Front and north take 2 hours each, the back is a full charge, or about 4 hours. I could do it in 45 minutes if I weren't violently allergic to cut grass. :-) The DS does the trimming for that very reason, and Myrtle's blades spin fast enough that there's minimal tear and minimal scent--and hence, minimal allergies. As long as none of the neighbors are mowing, I can be out at the same time as she is, just not in the same zone. Also, with no problems, she's plug and play. I check in at the end of the cycle and bring it inside, or change batteries and move on. Each week, more and more of the lawn gets cut. Then start backing off to desired length when you see fit. So I keep reading. I'll work it that way, and adjust up about a quarter inch a week. By the end of October I'll be near or at 3", then go to 3 1/4" next spring. Not that it's ready to mow yet. My estimated date was September 15, which has now become September 8 with the speed of growth. It could still be later, weather depending.

I fill my tank about every three mows (3 gal), and I have about 2/3 acre of actual grass to mow. So I guess it costs me about $3.50 per mow. Gas could be $10 a gallon and I'd still mow twice a week. Between tilling, grading, sodding, rolling, and fertilizing, aerating and thatching, I put a lot of money and effort into that lawn and I don't intend to neglect it when it comes to keeping it the proper length. I refuse to let gas prices alter my lifestyle. Since my wife stays home with the kids and I drive 25 minutes each way to work, it would make sense to leave the GMC in the garage and drive the VW to work, rather than the other way around. But I never claimed to have any sense. I guess I'm just a whipper-snapper here in this forum, but when I was old enough to mow but too young to work--1984 to 1989--I'd charge my grandfathers' friends $10 to mow yards which were less than 1/4 acre (pushed, no trimming, their mower). Gas was around a dollar then. Twenty years later, my neighbor's kid charges the other neighbor $20 to mow a 1/2 acre lawn (basically the same rate). And his parents even thought that was a bit steep. So even though fuel has tripled in price as of late, it wasn't until recently that inflation really started to affect so many other things. We had to put in a new driveway a few years ago and we had the guy just scrape the top off the whole front yard while he was at it. I did use roundup in the back but the grass there was scraggly and it was pretty easy. I do not condone the use of herbicides for the most part either. We did the back in late August and got it all in one application (no dogs, cats or kids here) during a non rainy period so it wouldn't wash down. I wouldn't have tried it in front yard where it was thick and drains off into a stream in the park down the block. Partly my beds just kept getting bigger and bigger so the lawn size had really shrunk anyway. The stuff is a chore to dig out, I always did it in rows and tediously shook it out with each shovelful. The only time I like bermuda is when its dormant in winter and light cream colored. I like it OK in dry summers when left to go dormant too. My understanding is that this characteristic was what made it popular way back when before the day of sprinkler systems and constant watering people do now. Otherwise, I consider it one of the ugliest worst, most offensive weeds in America. I am constantly on it to keep it from invading my yard from the west and east lawns. There are some new no mow lawn seed mixes available online. They are supposed to perform very well and are low water users, better than buffalo grass but still, you have to get rid of the bermuda first. Just joking here but crabgrass is a good way to choke it out. Weed vs Weed.

Is this KBG grass? No need to do anything if so as it spreads quickly. Otherwise maybe wait till fall to spot seed as needed. Could just be some stray animal pee. Your photos, while great in the shade, are still a good 12" too far away. You need to get maybe 4" away from the blades at the edge of the brown spot. Having said that, I copied and enlarged your image. I see some yellowing from the tip down about a half inch on several of the blades at the border, but nothing like pics of fungus I've seen online (please be aware I don't know much about fungus ID). Most of the grass just beyond the edge of the brown patch looks very healthy with no sign of fungus as much as my untrained eye from too far away can tell, so maybe it is an isolated incident. I would just keep an eye on it, but you seriously need to do something about your watering schedule.

I've lived in the Kansas City area since the 60's. Never did anything but store gas mowers/weedeaters/blowers in the garage or garden shed from last use(usually October) until first use next year(usually late March/early May.

No storage treatment, no running tanks dry, nothing.

But Handy you know that's not a great thing to do.

It's pretty easy to add some fuel stabilizer and/or run the tanks dry or empty them at the end of the season.

The volatiles in the gas will flash off with time and depending on the level of gas in the tank could leave a thick residue in there.

sdello, I think you're supposed to add fuel stabilizer and run the machine so the stabilizer gets into the carburetor. Just running the tank dry w/o stabilizer isn't enough.

I've been an automotive mechanic most of my life. If a gasoline powered machine is to be stored in a conditioned space, as inside a building, the stabilizer is fine. If stored outside, gas does not flash/evaporate in cold temps. In newer closed fuel systems, gasoline does not evaporate like the old systems.

I have a LawnBoy mower that is probably 25 years old. It sat for two years in the garden shed. I pulled it out, hit the primer bulb several times, it fired just as if it had been used the day before. It has a non vented fuel system(done by me).

I worked for a utility for 22 years. We used stabilizer on some of the equipment, but in a vented fuel system, even stabilizer does not work for more than a year.

Taking the lead out of gasoline stopped most of the varnish problems. The bigger problem now is how the alcohol degrades flexible fuel lines and seals. I have to replace the rubber fuel lines/primer bulb on that LawnBoy about every two years.

Adding stabilizer is not useless. If anyone feels it is necessary, by all means, use it. But, do not expect the stabilizer to prevent the larger problem of alcohol degradation.

Handy: I knew you knew there's more to it than "do nothing". Of course the OP was only asking about a couple of months.

I've known folks that ran their car for years and 10,000s of miles without ever changing the oil. The car dies eventually but it takes years. There's nothing wrong with some basic maintenance. Fuel stabilizer is cheap and easy.
