Black & Decker Jar Opener

I have one of these, but the rubber pieces that hold onto the jar have deteriorated. Has this happened to anyone and are there sticky rubber pieces that can replace the old ones?

I cut some pieces of that no slip shelf liner and stuck them on with double sided carpet tape. I always say I would starve to death without mine.

No problem, I think you hit the head on the nail with walmart and B&D. Husqvarna IMO is a decent company that produces pretty good products. I have actually owned the Black and decker le750 that you have been looking at and i would have to say that it is pretty mediocre. I would have to always rock the edger back and forth so that the edger could advance along the driveway and grass would clump up between the cutting blade and the front guide wheel. So i would have to stop and open up the housing door containing the blade and pull out all of the grass that was clumped inside. But i had this years ago when the model first came out and im not sure if they have changed the design much since then (highly doubt it). But my edger has met its maker and is in a landfill. I own a troybilt gas edger (model Tb554) and it does a pretty good job, I can edge 400ft of side walk in front of my house in a couple of minutes. But its only good at cutting straight lines. How much do you need to edge and do you already have a string trimmer?

Donn, You are so good!!! That is just what I need! I have the BD Leaf Hog too, and have the same issues as you Julianna. Only one more problem... The bag attachment jammed late last year, so now I can't even take the bag off. So I have to zip that little opening open and shake and pull the leaves out while still holding on to the whole tigamajig. It's character building that's for sure! But you can bet your booties that once I get that lovely attachment Donn so graciously showed us, that excuse for a pouch will be coming off pretty quick!

Oh, gosh! I thought I was copping out today with this tip because it's more of a nifty gadget tip than one that I came up or stole from a friend, I'm so glad that so many of you will find it useful. They come in different colors, I have a red one and a navy one and I reach for the red one every time. The beauty of this opener is that once you've released the pressure/popped the seal, the top unscrews with ZERO effort, no straining, no gripping, just give a gently twist and it'll come undone instantly, just as easy as putting a lid back on. Casey, I like the look of yours, too. I like how it does the deeper sizes, I'll be on the lookout for one of those, too. And the knife tip is great, in case I can't find one like Casey's! I can see where the Gilhoolie would come in handy, too. Nothing like some good lever action to help open a jar. Some jars are just too big for my hand to fit around, this would help enormously. Great tips, everyone, thanks so much! (And I just want to bop Woody when he scuffs the linoleum, SheilaJoyce, so I'll remember that and maybe spare his life the next time!) lol

Why just kitchen tools? Why not also shower handles? I wish OXO would have partnered with faucet companies, because what i'm desperate to know (so that i can get tub fixtures installed, rather than living without cold running water in my bathtub), is: Which Delta shower handles are most friendly to arthritic knuckles, for example when i need to turn clockwise & counterclockwise for hot/cold/hot/cold therapy? I.E. does Delta Lahara shower handle have acute edges that can cause pain to arthritic fingers (feeling like bone-on-bone), or is the front and back of the handle round-contoured? I ask this, because online photo's fail to show a three-dimensional picture, so its an energy-draining guessing-game. Which model numbers have the least acute-angled edges? Please don't recommend the Classic-Monitor (T13420) because that hurts my fingers. I know because I tried it, since it was the one handle that was accessible for me to try.

For anyone who has problems opening jars I highly recommend getting a Jar Pop jar key. Absolutely the easiest way to get a vacuum sealed jar opened. I have pretty much every device made including a very nice black and decker opener but this is the first thing I reach for.

Thank you Rose and Raven. I'll do the shelf liner trick and just ordered 2 Jar Pops :-) That should cover all bases.

With the jar pop you don't need any hand strength at all because you don't try to unscrew it at all the little tool hooks up under the edge of the lid and as you push on it the vacuum seal pops and it just opens up easily. I have found a few jars that the lid was not made just right and the jar pop could not get a good grip but not many.
I think maybe I got mine at bed bath and beyond on their wall of gadgets. But I have had it so long I don't remember for sure. I need to get another one to leave in the RV.

Would the jar pop work on a lid like is on Hellman's mayonnaise or the ring on a jar of home canned food. One of my problems is that even after the jar has been opened the first time my son will use it and put the lid on too tight. of course when I want to use it I am home alone so the jar opener rescues me. My daughter bought it for us at a thrift store several years ago when my husband was scheduled for hand surgery.

I love the jar pop thing, best thing ever to open jars. Unseals the vacuum. I did try it on a Classico pasta jar the other day and the lid was too long for the jar pop to get under. I have used it on some mason jars.

They now have one in a size larger that opens the bigger size and taller lids.
Rose I don't think it would help you if the problem is he screws it on too tight. The jar pop releases the vacuum seal.
They have that bigger one on the Amazon link for the regular one.
