Help me pick Hardwood colors (Please Vote)
Comments (7)One thing to consider here when you're looking at these colors posted by others is what kind of wood it is. You used my floors in example C which is the nutmeg, and my wood is 4" white oak. I believe a red oak would have more red/gold undertones than the white oak which will stain a little browner. I'm sure not an expert here and I'm not saying one is better than the other, just pointing out that that's a consideration when you choose your color. You're going to have to rub some on the actual wood to see the result then even wet it to see what it looks like after the finish is on it. This was probably my second hardest decision in my new build after choosing granite color. My builder laughed at me as I agonized for a couple of weeks. He's the one that would wet them to give me a truer look. Hubby liked the Nutmeg best which is what we went with. I was torn between that and "Medium Brown" which was quite a bit darker. I think marketing won out in the end. I truly couldn't decide which look I preferred so I went with the cooler name. Gotta decide some how!!...See Moreposition of hardware on drawers... please vote...
Comments (41)Actually, what I meant by "original plan" was #4, which is the one I thought you came into this liking. That is, the standard arrangement for having the pull on the frame, plus the one you liked the looks of (I think) for the slab panel--assuming it doesn't conflict with the counter edge. Otherwise, one of the other similar arrangements. If you think the lower, panel centered, pulls will bug you, they probably will, and I'm totally with Lowspark that being not-annoying is by far the most important quality. I'm tall enough that I have to bend to open all but the top drawer anyway, and moreso to get what's inside, so the few inches difference totally doesn't bother me. If it bothers you, it bothers you, and as long as you don't overthink yourself into #5, which looks flat out weird, any of the arrangements will be fine. We can vote on one compared to the other, but if there's only one in the actual kitchen, there won't be any to say "but I like the looks of that better" to. We can obsess over an inch, but no one else will ever, ever know....See MorePlease vote on the flooring for my house!
Comments (34)thanks so much for the input! athomeinva, you're right in that wood look tile is not the typical flooring material in an MCM. But we looked at terrazzo and larger format tile and none of those options really grabbed us. We like the look of plank wood flooring. There are some wood-look tiles out there that provide the exact look we are going for. I think it's a great combination of form, function and aesthetics and allows us to live an indoor/outdoor lifestyle with dogs, kids with wet feet from the pool and beach and lots of entertaining without worrying about our hardwoods getting ruined. StellaMarie, Pip lived on hardwoods at our house which he constantly skated on, but he is currently staying at a family member's house while we have ours on the market. Our family has large format tile and Pip seems to do better on tile and doesn't slip as much. aktillery, I'm with you -- non dog people -- don't understand them! kitchentime, i like that reclaimed wood a lot! we considered reclaimed it was too rustic for my husband's taste. I found a lovely blonde wood look wide plank that I think is the winner. I'm out tomorrow searching for samples and will post some pics when I have them. I'll post some photos of the beautiful showrooms at Porcelanosa and Eleganza on Tile Mile. Those places had some seriously cool stuff. In the meantime, the old black flooring came up today. Progress is good!...See More3 Tiles Patterns to Vote on - Only 7 Pictures- please vote
Comments (64)Elle3, Thank you so much for letting me know you like the staggered also. The installer today liked the staggered with the shape of my kitchen and I think it is an updated look that is becoming popular. I have the diagonal in the two foyers and it looks nice but after I spread the tiles out on the floor, I just liked the staggered first, diagonal second and the straight third just like mercymygft. The installer today chose a dark mushroom color from Polyblend custom grout colors that too me looked like a taupe/gray color and yes it went with the gray veins in my tile but I like the Laticrete Mushroom color I chose to blend with the tiles and not stand out. He let me see his townhouse in a different complex that had solid cherry cabinets that he has professionally stained a Mahogany Cherry with crown molding and it looked great with the cherry floors in the other room. Maybe I should change the lighting and tile now and then make my decision on the cabinets? ksissy, I wish I could just change the cabinet doors but Home Depot's refacing place was ridiculously expensive at $18,400 but if I signed that night, $15,400! I wonder if someone can replace the doors at a cheaper price? I had planned on painting the cabinets BM Cloud White once I decided not to buy cabinets right now since I had wanted to go with Shiloh's Polar White Inset Cabinets with the hidden hinges. Now after seeing someone cherry kitchen this morning with cherry floors in the other room, I wonder if my cabinets will look better a little bit darker due to the cherry floors in the next room. I want new cabinets but I decided just not yet since there is too much down time with renovating the whole kitchen and the price is becoming too much for my townhouse in case I want to sell it one day....See MoreHomeChef59
