Comments (8)I think this is a candidate for refacing with wood mantle, stucco/smooth plaster over the brick, and put a craftsman style tile around the firebox opening and on the floor. The brick mass dominates the room and not in a good way. Designing a mantle so that it coordinates with the ceiling cove molding, and other details helps integrate the fireplace into the room with other design elements. Tile that goes into the firebox makes the brick recede even further into the past. Here are two simple designs we did over brick mass. Hope you can see in this total home rehab we are working on in Southlake. TX.. It was a bu— ugly front drive up .. and the wing with board and batton is all new Construction..
