15yr old subzero or new Kitchenaid built-in
Comments (2)How do you know its in great condition? Has it been removed from the wall? Have you really inspected it closely and are you knowledgeable about how fridges work? I would never buy a 15 year old appliance unless I knew exactly what I was getting....See MoreSub-Zero Launches New Built-In Refrigerators
Comments (2)I was hoping to see if SZ is taking any steps to improve on their recent dismal reliability history, but no mention of that in the article. I suppose to do so would amount to admitting their poor repair record. While SZ rates excellent on temperature performance, virtually all fridges test excellent or very good on that. I'm also not convinced that separate compressors provides SZ better performance of any significance. OTOH, that feature has been very "handy" to us during the numerous times our SZ has needed repairs -- for example, the freezer kept going when the fridge compressor went out, and vice versa. We'd take one compressor any day if it meant a more reliable fridge. As for improved water and air quality, it's certainly hard to argue against that, but the big question is how significant and how meaningful an improvement and for how much additional cost. SZ makes great looking products; I just wish their reliability were equally great....See MoreNew Sub-Zero Built-In Refrigerator
Comments (4)I knew it was coming but couldn't wait. We went for a SZ 632 as part of remodel. Hopefully not looking at the new line-up will help me remain satisfied with the 632 for the 20 or so years we expect to keep it. By then Sub-Zero should have something really amazing to replace the 632. A funny story about the 632. It has the usual SZ tight seal, which makes it harder to open than the fridge we've been using while renting during renovations. I asked our 7 year old daughter to try opening the SZ, and it took her considerable effort. So much that at one point she asked me "Dad, is this refrigerator locked?"...See MoreMix KitchenAid 48 inch built-in refrigerator with Miele appliances?
Comments (6)We have a 2002 KA 48" fridge/freezer and I will be happy to see it go with our kitchen remodel/gut next month. 48" might seem big, but it is still a side-by-side and I find both sides a bit too narrow. It has mostly worked well. In the 8 years we have owned it we have had 3 service calls due to the fridge side not being cold enough. The tech never seems to find anything wrong! We are going with Subzero this time, a 36" all fridge and 24" all freezer. No need to match appliance brands. Our current kitchen has KA, DCS, Thermador and Miele. Get the appliance that best meets your needs and budget....See Morerococogurl
