ship lap color?
Comments (0)We are currently renovating a home we just bought. So far, I have had all of the trim painted Decorators White. At the end of one of one of the hall ways we have a big room that the previous owners added on. We decided to make it a TV/hangout room. One wall has sliding doors to the back deck, one wall facing west has a couple of windows. We were thinking of making the east wall all ship lap, with a fireplace in the center of the wall, a TV above it, and built in bookshelves, with ship lap as the back wall of those shelves. Because this room is kind of on its own, and only connected to a hallway, should I make the trim and ship lap Dove White by Ben Moore? or keep my Decorators White for trim and shiplap? or keep Dec White as the trim and Dove White for the ship lap? My concern is that the Dec White will be too bright white for the room. However, we were thinking of the other three walls being painted navy, like Newburyport Blue......? Too much of a contrast? Am I better off with something like Paper White for walls?...See MoreShip lap wall paint combination with current wall color and decor
Comments (7)You have a grayish wood look floor (linear pattern) with another color wood shelf (linear pattern) and a third wood linear pattern on a wall. 2 out of 3 need to go away. If you want to repeat the floor tile on the wall, that would be fine. But there are too many lines and too many woods. Painting it won’t help with the lines....See MoreIs it okay to caulk t1-11 ship lap edges where panels have bowed?
Comments (23)I once read "a house built to code is the most expensive house ever built". Can't remember where I read that to give credit, but truer words have never been spoken. On a side note, city inspectors do not look for poor quality craftsmanship, installation per manufacturer instructions, or ANYTHING other than code violations. It's not their job. Nothing against most of them, it's just not their job. Depending on the thickness of the LP siding, it can actually function as the wall sheathing for a structure. I've had a couple projects that used this philosophy to avoid paying for 2 layers (sheathing & siding). Not my favorite thing, but if done properly with the correct air sealing measures before the siding goes up, it can be done with success. IMO not worth the effort, but with the astronomical pricing we are seeing for sheet goods (and everything lumber related) these types of practices will only gain ground. Makes me wonder how many builders have figured this out with the popularity of the farmhouse style of siding/sheathing?...See MoreEdited below for more questions. Kitchen wainscot or ship lap help!
Comments (14)I'm no expert, but I don't think you should do shiplap or paneling, even though I have a house full of dark paneling from the 60s that I painted white in the 90s and I am reasonable happy with the look. I would remove the framed mirror from the dining wall and leave that wall blank. I would also remove the white relief artwork from the hallway--I don't think that every wall needs to be decorated. Remove the "C" above the sink and the tchotchkes over the kitchen cabinets and elsewhere else in the room. I would also look at inspiration photos to figure out something simpler and bolder for the mantel decor, because I would think that's where you want the focal point of your kitchen and dining area to be....See MoreMichelle
