Time-lapse video of breaking ground to framing

Hi all,
My husband and I (and six children) are building a farmhouse in the country. Since many of you are also building homes, I thought you might be interested in watching a time lapse video of our build from breaking ground to framing almost completed. We used a Go-pro camera mounted to our neighbors home. Details of the floor plan can also be found if you follow the link. Enjoy! :>)

So neat! I love your floor plan, it's very interesting. Am I reading it right that bed 5 and 6 are blocked from the main hall that the master and the other 2 bedrooms share? What is the reason for that? I've never seen that before.

Yes, you are reading the plan correctly. My husband's mother and her husband will be living in that area. One room will be their bedroom and the other large room will be a living area with a full kitchenette. Thanks for taking the time to check out the video. :)

Thanks guys. I tried using Quicktime 7 Pro to save the movie in a Windows media format, but it kept cutting off about the last 1/3rd of it. If anyone knows a fix for this please let me know. I use a Canon XTI, a Tamron 70-300mm zoom and a Sigma 28-80mm zoom. Both lenses have macro settings which come in handy for smaller blooms. Hey Seth It was a while ago now, but I believe that I set it up to snap a frame every 10 or 20 seconds apart, and the longest one ran for only about 7 hours, which was plenty of time to catch the hyacinth blooming. I was using a Sony digital 8 camcorder hooked up to a laptop through a USB video capture device and the laptop was running Media Studio Pro video capture program. I got a few pictures of the set up here. What I have been wanting to do is get a camera and compatible software that allows me to capture higher resolution pictures so I could make high definition videos. I do have a HD camcorder, but the capture software I was using does not work with firewire inputs which is the only way to import HD video.

Cool video indeed. I have wanted to make a time lapse video for a long time but have always felt that the process would just be so tedious. Does your camera have a time lapse function or did you edit the video? You have inspired me to drag out my seriously underused video camera. GG plant sex is pretty darn filthy when you look at it. I think some of the coolest orchids are the ones that trick male insects into mating with them. Some orchids even produce the exact sex pheromones needed to attract their pollinators. Some of the South American orchids from the same group as the Catasetums produce oils that male Euglossa bees collect and smear on themselves so that they can attract females, like sexy cologne. Hoyas are not quite as advanced as orchids but the lock and key type mechanism for Asclepiad pollination is pretty darn cool in itself. Quinn you should try a Catasetum because I am sure you would love them. You can't get much easier than wet + fertilizer in the summer and completely dry and sunny in the winter. Anyways they are easier to keep happy than those often temperamental Angraecoids. Mike Here is a link that might be useful: Ophrys

I have used a LOT of cameras for outdoor purposes. Wildlife cameras have really evolved in the last 5 years. If your looking for a simple, affordable camera that you can place on a tree and program in the interval for taking shots then you can use any sort of foodplot camera. Plot Watcher is one that is advertised pretty heavily on the Outdoor Channel. I personally would rather have a camera that has many more functions and I can use for other purposes. My hands-down favorite is the Reconyx cameras. They take thousands of pictures on a single set of batteries. You can program in so many different functions I cannot begin to list them all. Camera speed, burst rate, day/night, delay, timed, lapse, etc... Do some research online. The nice thing about a Reconyx is you can use it and if you decide to get rid of it, you can sell it on Ebay for almost what you bought it for. These cameras are quality. I am planning to have multiple cameras on my build site. I want one on the road, one on the structure and one to record progress. One for fun and two for security. I plan to use a ladder to mount them up on the trees so they are out of sight of the contracted labor. I hope they won't see any use, but If we have some theft we should be able to do someothing about it. Good luck Saftgeek-

Great!

My DH would have camped out in front of our build if he could. Instead my "job" was to go to the site to take pictures every day.

Looks like a roomy house.

Would be nicer to see from close up. You don't get the impact of the time-lapse if you can't see the detail.

we homeschool - are building a farmhouse - and have two grandparents living with us!

We're currently at the stage of beginning drywall in a week/two and putting on back deck. We have a walkout basement too!

Your view is gorgeous! Ours is all forest and trees and creek~
We are blessed women, indeed!

Awesome project and interesting layout. My wife usually takes complete photos of all my construction projects however your Go-Pro idea is even better to use, perhaps 3 or even 4 devices, when I commence build of my third and hopefully last dream home, late spring or early summer this year.

Keep up the good work and we look forward to more photos and videos.
