This is my first time here. Is it possible to stop/block the news feed on Facebook? I get so sad or grossed out by the news that is posted there.

Are you looking at those postings? Do you subscribe to Facebook? Do you Tweet?

On the upper right of the postings that you don't want to see, click the down pointing arrow and choose "I Don't Want to See This" or Unfollow whomever is posting it.

In a word - yes. I had someone from Australia with my exact same name ask to subscribe to me. I guess she was just going through FB and subscribing to all that had her name. It appeared in my notifications that she was subscribing to me. I made it so she couldn't and also set it so that would not happen again.

I received the ad and thought for me it was a waste of time and money. For someone who is starting to or is having problems with a keyboard or other computer problems that sometimes comes with age and/or health conditions having a larger visual might be nice. Not being able to select your pictures would mean those that you want to keep will not be in there and ones you would rather disappear in to the never never would be.

News stories as opposed to the main postings part of your page (which is called the news feed)?

Try doing a search for Facebook Purity. It is a FB add-on that lets you choose what shows up on FB. For instance I block trending topics, sponsored stories, suggested groups, and recommended pages. It lets me see more of what I want to see and less of what I am not interested in.

I use FF with Adblock and Flashblock. I never noticed any adds or news streams. Do you have to sign up for news streams?

Maybe Adblock/Flash are blocking them. I didn't even know FB had ads.

I *think* that the OP was talking about the news feed or what just scrolls down on your Facebook home page. That was what my answer addressed.

I understand that, but I don't see a newsfeed on my FB page, nor anything else except my 'stuff'. No newsfeed.

The News Feed are all of the posts of your friends or family or folks that you follow Jane. If your page is quieter, you might only see the things that you've posted. Also content that you've liked will show in your News Feed. It's the main part of what you see on your Facebook homepage that is called the News Feed.

I don't know. I'm only on FB because my kids insist and I go there to see their photos of my grandchildren. A few friends, that's it. Here's a screen shot of my page.

Jane, that is your profile page. If you click the Home button next to your name you'll see the News Feed that the OP was referencing.
