To perform the following "trick" you will need a "channel lock" pliers and a very small socket (say around 3/16" or 4mm). Place the socket (or similar item) over the pin on either side so that the socket (or other) rests on the pin boss. Open the jaws of the pliers wide enough to span from the end of the socket all the way over to the other end of the pin. Try to adjust the jaws so that the flats of the jaws are as parallel as possible (so you are squeezing straight into the pin). Apply pressure slowly and evenly to the pin, first in one direction, and then switch the socket to the other pin boss and apply pressure to the opposite end of pin to push in the other direction. Once the pin breaks loose, you should be able to "twist it out" using needle nose pliers. Instead of using the expandable jaw pliers, you might alternatively use a small C-clamp to push against the pin. Good luck.

Indeed, this Grannie is laughing too! Grandson was here over the weekend. The update was triggered and is now a done deal. Grandson reminded me to make sure Defender was enabled, then download anti malware. I didn't want to let him to go home!!! So tomorrow it's on to the downloads. Regarding defender: do I uninstall Norton before Defender will work? I'm glad I have the iPad to continue using while I learn the new system.

After reading these messages my cheapo gene kicked in. $14.95 now $200 later. So I bought it. I keep things backed up pretty good so I was ready to do a clean install. I burned the iso to disk, inserted it and got to the point of entering the product key. I didn't work so I backed up and entered it again same result. I opened the email thanking me for ordering it and copied it and pasted it in the installer. Still didn't work so I called MS support. They couldn't help but escalated my call to the next level. But they had closed for the day and I have to call back tomorrow.

From my experience with W 7 & 8...I would google Classic Shell and see if it is compatible with W 8.1, if it is I would go with it. I think every computer I have had except ME has been faster than the last one. Classic Shell is a great software that converts the W8's into a computer more like the version we are use to. My Acer laptop is very fast and the monitor part moves to comfortable positions for your vision, especially if you have mid range vision. It converts from a laptop to a tablet, a very large tablet.
