If you are using Internet Explorer, you will need to adjust the security settings to allow downloads.

At the top, click Tools, then Internet Options. Choose the Security tab. Click Internet Zone near the top and remove the check near the bottom for 'Protected Mode'. There will be a grave warning that you are putting your computer at risk, acknowledge it and continue on.
Now click Custom Level and make a change.
Scroll down until you see the download section. look for er automatic prompting for file downloads, enable that selection. Click OK and Apply until the dialog boxes all close and answer yes to Internet Explorer's confirmations that you want to make changes. Close Internet Explorer and open a fresh window then try your download again.When you open IE again, there will be a yellow information bar at the top, click the bar and choose to not show this message again or just ignore it.

Because Microsoft products are often breached, the security on IE is just unbelievable!

Thanks for the info and I will try that. But I use AOL and I don't think it even uses the IE. (I do have Comcast, too) Also, this only started happening recently and I haven't changed anything. So should I still try and do what you suggested? I appreciate your help, that's for sure. Evie

I just tried to go to IE as it's listed on my computer. But when I go there I just get "Google". I even have an icon for it, but it also goes to Google! So I guess I don't use it, just AOL.

evie, it won't say IE on the page, google may be the default home page for IE. When google comes up go to tools at the top of the page and follow Pkponder's instructions.

See if this might help for AOL. I haven't used the AOL browser in 10yrs so don't have it installed to see where to go but this should be it. If not see if something at the next link works. Mary

AOL Desktop 10 does utilize Internet Explorer browser settings. These settings can also be found in Control Panel under Internet Options.

I read in your other thread that a system restore got you up and running, but for the future, you might file away the instructions for setting your Internet Explorer security settings. The system restore probably removed the Windows Update that caused the issue in the first place. It will likely be back :-)

What anti virus do you run? disable for 15 mins or until restart before doing a download, it is preventing the download. Norton is famous for this nasty trick.

All firewalls operating on Windows systems have settings, whether you use the built-in capability or a third party one. If you don't like the degree of restriction, it's easily changed.

Those who prefer (or require) an experience that's nonadjustable and unconfigurable will be happier using Apple products.
