Comments (14)I only have the doggy tumbleweeds... nearly unavoidable with a Keeshond, unless you are cleaning EVERY minute! We've only had Goku eat something off a low table once, and this is a FAB story. When we got him as a 2 year old rescue we were living in a house that was built like a "circle" - the stairway upstairs was smack in the middle between the LR and DR/kitchen, so you could go from the front of the house to the back on either side of the stairs. I was eating a sandwich at the coffee table in the living room, which was in the front of the house. The dog went to the back door and raised a ruckus like someone was on the deck. So, I put my sandwich down and went to investigate, because we'd only had him for a few weeks and he was still very timid and unpredictable and liable to pee on the floor if he got upset. Well, as I went round one side of the stairway, he whipped round the other side and snatched my sandwich off the coffee table! Seeing nothing outside and noticing the dog (normally The Original Velcro Dog, and he still is six years later) wasn't right nearby, I came back into the living room to find an empty plate and a dog looking very smug. I was pretty stunned at how he had figured it all out, even though Keeshonden are known for their creativity! He never took anything off a low table, the floor, the ground, wherever after that - he got "leave it" pounded into his head (metaphorically, duh) pretty quickly. We even put him on a down-stay when we put his food bowl down and require him to stay in place ("wait for it") until released to eat - very funny to watch, and good training. Some Keesies are counter-surfers (they're amazing jumpers when food is involved) but thankfully it has never occurred to Goku to go after anything on the counter, even when we've done things like leave steaks on the counter when going out to light the grill. He even has an easy route from floor to counter right now, floor to couch seat to couch back to counter, but he doesn't take advantage of it. He has never tipped a trash can, thank goodness, nor chewed anything... in fact, he won't even chew things specifically given to him to chew! It did take many months to completely house-train him, because he didn't understand about telling us he needed to go out (we also needed to learn to catch the subtle cues) and when he got anxious he had accidents. His house manners still go out the window when we move, and it takes a month or so for him to get a grip on himself again. He IS a naughty boy in some aspects: he jumps on people, he's a little mouthy (likes to hold people's hands in his mouth, very gently, and suck thumbs! but people misinterpret it, yank their hands away, ouching themselves on his canine teeth), is very attention-demanding ("love me love me love me love me NOW!!")and he is completely intolerant of other dogs and children....See MoreAnybody know who the Architect of this house plan is?
Comments (27)The sliding doors for windows is a clever detail for vacation houses and those where owners will only occupy the house for relatively short periods, since the sliding door can be closed and locked from the inside. For houses where occupancy is full-time, year around, they are a very expensive detail which may never be used in a closed fashion. After all, if one is occupying the house, why would one close off the view and the natural light? If the issue is privacy, that's what interior wood shutters, curtains and drapes have provided for hundreds of years....See More1970s Norwegian hillside House - Exterior Paint Ideas?
Comments (4)Thank all of you for the thoughts. I am not a huge fan of the flat grays that are so popular right now, because I think it's a 'trendy' color that will look dead and flat in a few years (because it is), and people will start repainting away from that in a hurry. I like the idea of red with white trim, but since we live in Norway, literally every third house here is a beautiful red with white trim (and it's gorgeous but I am not sure I want to be yet another one of those red-and-white houses). We are Swedish ourselves, so I've considered a sunny yellow with white trim (the yellow is pretty popular in Sweden). However, I also love green (some interior spaces are going to be happy rich greens when we are done with it), and purple, so that bears thinking. The white-with-blue-trim idea may work with a different-colored front door (red?), but I am not sure how well blue works with green. Since the house has such a lovely architecture (in effect, it has 4 levels inside), I also don't want to overload it with colors though, since that may make it look too busy. And yes, definitely hiring professionals, since it sits built into a slope on a mountainside, and trying to paint that ourselves is a plain recipe for disaster....See MoreRelated Professionals
